I for one can never see the attraction in making yourself more obvious to the police.
If I see a sports bike and his plate is a 9"x7", his exhaust (can) looks legal, and he's in decent clothing/helmet etc..I'll more than likely not be interested in him or his bike and go the other way..
If that biker then speeds or does something else wrong..he's not got a police officer behind him.
However, if I see a biker/bike that I'm interested in and follow it for a simply chat or VDRS and the biker then speeds or does something wrong...It's going to cost him even more...
Does that make sense...?

Er No - I'd be nervous ( not because I've done anything wrong, but because I'm that kind of guy) if you followed me on my bike, purely for a chat. VDRS wouldn't bother me as I know there's nothing wrong with my bikes.
I just hate the idea of traffic police being stuck on my tail for any length of time ( Cars or Bikes )- especially near the end of the month.
If I'm going somewhere, the last thing I want is someone stopping me for a "chat"

Im not arguing with you street; but blaming the number plates is just bad english, and demands no respect. 1 in 5 speeders may have small plates, but maybe its also 1 in 5 non speeders have small plates.. Its not grounds for a campaign.

It's not relevant to the campaign that you're discussing, but it's relevant to the reasons why bikers shouldn't have small plates...

I think the underlying thing..is many motorcyclists have avoided detection in the past, present and no doubt future by having Mars Bar size number plates and then the speed and size to get away..
That's probably half the thing...and that compared with some recent blips in bike fatalities...has meant the powers that be have thought..."Right..Get Ready"...and gone for 'em
But PVD6 Liebchen ... is this not like the thread where we discussed the woman whose screws were wrong colour und it contravened the law which says plates have to legible so that PC Gatso und Sergeant Truvelo unt Pee-cee Twit in Talivan can take a picture of your prid und joy und then charge you a small fortune for doing so 
Und this ist really why they have the "Operation Small Plates" so that they can cop all those naughty bikers before they have accident.... except that the ones who do have und cause the accidents are the numpties who ride like twazaks anyway und not the responsible ones who may have tiny plate but do not actually push the envelope to extremes...
Und Strassen would naturally go after a biker who needs word in shell over legislation just same as he goes for drivers who do this.
One would hope that Strassen would be as reasonable as he can be under the circumstances ... but unfortunately ... he has rules which he ist professionally required to adhere to, und a partner und they probably both have to agree mit each other as to what actions they decide to take as well....

I am still in the dark as to why the size of ones number plate effects the probability of an accident/injury/death? Surely an accident/injury/death is the result of, amongst other things, the actions of the motorcyclist, the motorist(if involved), the pedestrian(if involved) the motorcycle condition and the environment.
Is this article suggesting small number plates have a tendency to flip off and decapitate of impale the riders?

Why would a law-abiding biker have small plates? Aerodynamics? Appearance? Better safety if falling off backwards in an accident? I'm just wondering whether it's possible that bikers might have small plates for lots of good reasons that are nothing to do with cameras.

Firstly, you were reading a news article by the BBC...We've already seen on here the bollox that the BBC spins out....
However, reading the article it says:
The operation, which is taking place through December, is part of efforts to cut the number of bikers killed.
Officers say that one in five motorcyclists who are discovered speeding at more than 100mph (161km/h) have false or illegible plates.
I would imagine that document checks, speed checks etc are also being carried out, but haven't been mentioned by the BBC...
