Seems to be a popular 'Readers Cars' thread at the minute!! I sold my VX220 a few weeks back now having enjoyed the car hugely, but I decided it was time for a change with the main reasons that I can get the golf clubs and the bike in/on the R32 and I also had a V6 itch that needed scratching. Furthermore I used the VX220 as an everyday vehicle and when its pi$$ing it down or when freezing cold its just not a great place to be!!
Anyway, I had a few boxes that needed to be ticked spec wise as I wanted a 3dr Manual, preferably in blue and also preferably one with a slightly below average mileage. Other nice features I ideally wanted was the RNS 510 sat nav and the leather bucket Recaro seats. My budget meant that I was looking at 56/07 plate cars and I spent a couple weeks trawling daily through the classifieds and much to my surprise after 2 weeks looking stumbled on a 56 plate car at a VW main dealer which seemed reasonably priced and made the call to arrange to go and see it. The car had just been taken in on PX as the previous owner had just bought a new Golf R and the previous owner had owned it from new.
The car had originally been registered with this dealership and was serviced every year at the same dealership. The car is completely standard and is a 3dr Manual. It did not have the leather bucket seats but did have a sat nav system (albeit not the up-rated RNS510 version). It has a great deal of kit as standard - dual zone climate control, xenons, automatic wipers and headlights etc. What really drew me to the car though was the mileage (37,500) and also the fact that it would have 12 months warranty. I also got them to do the haldex service before collecting it and got a full Autoglym valet and lifeshine pack thrown in too.
First impressions of the car are great - obviously a completely different driving experience to the VX220, but the standout factor with the car is the engine and more to the point the exhaust note - WOW!!It sounds so sweet at 3000 rpm + and is so addictive. MPG was as expected (managed 33.5 mpg on a motorway run and typically 23-27 elsewhere).
My plans are to keep the car completely standard with the possible exception of the 'flapper mod' and maybe a little further down the line a full non res Milltek exhaust.
Now for a few pics (not after a wash!). Hope you enjoy...
