Looking at something to use at weekends, I don't want to be no older than 2004 and be fairly reliable. Been looking at golf r32 mk4s and Impreza sti. Not really to sure, Would maybe consider a 130i

confused Aren't good mk5 R32s even more than 130is?

Edit: just checked autotrader - there appear to be more good 130is for your budget than Golfs. I know which I'd rather have, and it ain't the 4wd one.

The 2005 Sti widetrack would be the one to get if you go down the Scooby route.
have a look on the net for more details.
It has water spray and a button to control the diff.
Every man needs buttons like those.

Subaru Sti best value £/ performance
BMW 335i petrol twin turbo 305 bhp also worth taking for and test drive and makes a 130/330 feel very slow.

Honestly not something I would worry about on a 130i as long as you conduct your due diligence on the car.

For 500 quid you can get a BMW Warranty. That will still work out cheaper than the 1000 - 1500 mark up a dealer charges.

You can get nice ones with FSH for less than £10k (I've had 3) just will have some miles on it they are good value at the moment £/performance.
My current one is on 190k, my last one now belongs to a mate and it has just clicked past 100k, dramas with either of them both with FSH.

Ive had a 330 before and found it boring and the e46 is not the best built car and comes with issues

If running costs permit, you should be able to see a pretty tidy E46 M3? (should the M3 be an option)
