GT cup round 1,2,3
Discussion
Hello,
Well that was the most intense weekend of car racing I've ever experienced, GT cup was awesome and can't wait for the next one, here's a quick run down of how things went...
Practice and Qualifying went fine on Sat morning, went 1.10.6 on the National Circuit and qualified 12th out of 34 cars
Race 1 - passed a few 458's and porsches to get into 8th place within 5-6 laps and was lapping well, defending my position and getting much closer to other cars than I have in the past, unfortunately my car overheated and had to pit, It took 5-6 minutes to get the boiling car settled down and re-filled with fluids, I turned my mapped setting off and went on wastegate pressure so 60hp and 100lb/ft down to keep the car cooler, re-entered in 26th I think and managed to progress back up doing consistent 1.11's to finish 23rd.
Saturday night Dave popped up from Jetstream to help out and found a couple of leaks (one bad) from hoses at front and rear of the car, also seems to have overboosting issue but we can't locate the source of that so ran the rest of the weekend on wastegate pressure.
On sunday qualified 14th on low boost then my drivers side half shaft broke half way through the session (completely sheared the splines), so whipped it out and went down to Jetstream to pick up another for the race.
Race 1 started 14th on slicks and the skies opened on lap 1, nobody was pitting for wets so had to tip toe round. Managed to again progress from 14th up to 8th position and when I was making the pass on a Porsche for 7th, braked too late and had to go straight on at the chicane and turn on the tar, when I re-joined I had dropped to 18th with 1 lap to go and managed to claw back a spot to 17th.
Race 2 started 14th again, it was dry but cold track so struggled to get heat into the tyres for a few laps and dropped to 18th I think, then the tyres came good and I picked my way through to 10th place, sadly due to the Stringfellow lambo and an over enthusiastic 430 driver who was stuck in the gravel at a dangerous place, the race was red flagged with a couple of laps to go, and because I had passed 2 cars (Mosler and Porsche) on that lap, my finishing position was taken from the last lap and was placed 12th.
Think I need a new windscreen from being on the bumper of so many cars for so long during the races, lol chipped to death!
The positives I'm taking away from this -
I finished all 3 races
I was in a top ten position in all 3 races at some point
I didn't hit or get hit by a £300k lambo/Ferrari/McLaren
It looks like my pace when on it was good enough to be fighting for 6th/7th positions and will work towards that.
During the middle of the wet race I was 3rd or 4th fastest on track while on slicks.
I learned an awful lot
The Noble is a formidable beast that just needs some fine tuning to make a bit more reliable

So much action though, I would highly recommend getting along to a round or two, the racing is bumper to bumper, there was a Chevron go up in flames, Lambos and Ferraris spinning off and pushing each other off all over the place, a great mix of cars like Lotus/Evora/Ginneta/TVR/Mosler/McLaren/Lambo/Porsches and others.
I'll let you know when its on Motors TV

I really enjoyed this write up. It shows the highs and lows so well. It also sounds like you were still keeping very reasonable pace on wastegate pressure. Congratulations it sounds like you did really well and saw lots of really positive action.
I will try my absolute best to see you at Brands Hatch on the 17th & 18th. Until then keep us updated on any developments.

will also try and get to Brands meet.
seeing as you are racing a Noble, would it be considered a Supercar?

Thanks Guys, I'll try keep any break downs to the practice sessions,
Yes I had the in car camera on for these but because the videos are so long, It will take an age to upload so it will be later in the week before I get them uploaded. Unfortunately the camera only records when the car is moving so missed the pit stops, there is a button to override that which I now know about for next time.
cheers

Graham i had a look at the results and it says on race one you were classified? Did you not cover enough of the race %?
nice of you to drop by with your positive comments AndrewNo due to my overheating issue losing 8 minutes in the pits I dropped behind the leader by just over 20% of race time. So yes technically not classified.

I followed the live timing to see how you got on over the weekend and was surprised to see you down as not classified but as finished.
Still think it's a great result against proper GT3 race cars.

Glad to hear you're having fun Graham, can't beat some wheel to wheel racing
Reliability is the key as is consistency, we were faster than those who took second place, but they were way more consistent than us and had no breakdowns. Bol for the next race, look forward to seeing some footage.

Ok no problem Andrew,
Your spot on Paul, if I wasn't having issues and consistent with my laps I could have been top ten easy. hopefully with time my confidence will grow for the mad dash on the opening lap and I won't wait so long to start make passes. Although I did pass a 911 GT3 through craner curves which I was mega happy with
James, Unfortunately I won't be able to hand out free tickets for these events, however people at donington were just telling the man at the gate "im just dropping off some parts to garage x and leaving" to get in free. Alternatively you can contact the circuit office at Brands Hatch and buy tickets for £15 or something.
cheers
