Cool/quirky/FAST for around £10k

Ok, so, imagine you have £10k (ish). You want a car that is slightly unusual and fast.
MPG not a problem
Some minor "character" issues not a huge problem (ie slightly iffy reliability)
Must be fun to drive
Must be quick
Must be cool
Classics ok
My short(ish) list is:
Lotus Esprit
TVR Cerbera
BMW Z3M Coupe
Caterham - although I prefer a roof
Can't afford a Skyline or I'd include that
More ideas?

Can you afford a few thousand a year on maintenance costs? If not, you can't afford a Cerbera or later TVR either.
£10k will not buy a particularly desireable example either which makes the likelihood of above running costs even higher.
That probably applies to the Esprit also, and there's a good chance a Porsche 996 will yield similar results.

To be honest, on ten grand your shortlist would probably not stretch to the cars you mention, unless something wrong with them,
Most classics arent that fast, certainly not FAST bsed on your list.
996 is doable, but, that is the absolute entry level.
10 Grand still buys a decent 944 turbo, or an S2 and some change, depends how fast you want to go, I was impressed how fast my S2 felt.
Few Fast Audis in that bracket, S4's, S6's, RS6, TT Sport, S8
You might find a Z4M at around ten, but really, its 3.0 Si territory. Other BMW are available, E46 M3, E39 M5, 335i, 650i.
10 grand buys you a lot of japanese turbo, 300 ZX, Impreza, Evo, MR2 Turbo, Supra TT (will be an import), Skyline R32 GTR maybe, GTS-T Skyline, RX7.
Swedish stuff can be fast, decent cars but usually a one trick pony, i.e. a Volvo with a bit of straight line speed, no longer the novelty it once was.
I had the same dilemma and went with a 350Z, basically with ten grand I wanted to avoid agro, M3s at that price tended to be knackered, old, tuned Jap stuff appeals but will probably bankrupt me, so the 350Z I got was well in budget, only had 33k and does its job well, but if you want Cerbera performance, it wont provide that, depends whether you fancy living on the wild side, fastest for the least money always tends to end in disaster for me.

I had a very similar set of criteria this time last year and ended up with a VX220 Turbo. Circumstances have changed slightly now and if i did it over again id probably have a Westfield but the VX does have a level of practicality above one of those and i cant really fault it so far.
