Just got back from the US and took a look at the C6 in real life at a dealer's and saw a couple of the new Mustangs on the road.

Opinion? Both pig-ugly. Sorry if this causes offence, but I'm just giving my opinion.

The C6 looks tiny compared with the C5. How they managed to do this is a bit of a mystery. 5" shorter on the road doesn't sound like that much.

It's all funky and somewhat disturbing angles. To my mind the worst of all wasn't the non-descript front end, but the horribly resolved curve of the rear end, which ends in a big 'lump' on the doors. Yuk.

It looked really cheap, too. Bits of nasty black plastic stuck on everywhere. The rear high-intensity light was straight off a Mazda RX-7 and looked like an afterthought... I could go on listing nastiness, but there are just so many things that jarred. Looked like a badly done mix between an MX-5 and a VX-220. Unless the Z06 is completely restyled, I for one wouldn't consider buying one based on looks. The dealer told me that the Z06 spec is due to be released on the 10th January, but wouldn't come out until 2006. Whether he was bs-ing, I don't know.

As for the Mustang... don't even get me started. It looked like a life-size hotwheels copy of an old Shelby Mustang which had been inflated using a foot pump. Truly nasty.

What *is* the World coming to?

Say it as you see it,I tried to buy a 2003 through B.M. but that fell through don't even ask, I ended up buy a 2004 from Germany, I am not rich but could have waited for a C6 but would not buy the first year of a car that is very hard to get serviced in the UK, but as soon as I got my first view I would not buy one it looks like a C5 face lift gone wrong, I love the size of the C5 and I love that big ass (but not on a woman) I am sure it will catch on but I await the C7 before I will buy a new Corvette again.

I'm with you on the C6. A total lack of inspiration. I drew a better one myself yesterday in about 10 minutes. There isn't a single line on it that I like. The headlamps are just plain dull and uninspired. The doors are slab-sided, the nose is just plain bad and the rear end isn't much better. From no angle does this car look good.

I feel sorry for the Guys in the US who've waited 8 years to be given this and who now stand up to defend it as a Vette which will "grow on you".

Well I watched Auto Mundial the other day and saw the new Chrysler 300C Estate. Now they get the Magnum in the US but we're getting the full 300C nose and you know what, it didn't have to grow on me, it's just an inspired design. Not that I'd buy one but I would certainly buy one in preference to a Volvo Estate.

Same with many cars - the F430, the Mini, the Elise - none of these have had to "grow on me" and I'm pleased to say that I can't think of a car I initially disliked that I went on to like later. Even the Focus which I was ambivalent to at the launch remains an ambivalent design to my eyes. The Vectra, which I hated on sight, I still hate. The Cadillac CTS-V which I loved on sight, I still love. The new Merc SL and SLK are both fabulous and I've never liked any Mercedes design in the past.

So I too am looking forward to the C7 as this car is a design that lacks fluidity and cohesion. I think the new Viper lost it's way too although in a more blandly acceptable, inoffensive way. Of course, I understand that style is a personal thing and that by and large the Press seem to think the design is a good one but are they trying too hard to be objective? Are these people who would actually part with cash to buy one? I don't think they are.

As for the Mustang - well, I confess I do love it but suspect it may only appeal to those who loved the original. As an "oldcaraphobic", I love the idea of having a classically styled car in a brand new package and may yet buy one.

Had the C6 been a retro version of the C2 instead of being a wannabe C3, I wouldn't have complained.

Saw the C6 at Goodwood and quite liked it - ok so its no 1963-67 Sting Ray like beauty but never mind. Saw the Mustang while in the States at Pebble Beach. Yes it does look like a parody - much like the new Beetle -but I thought it looked quite nice in grey.

The good thing about Corvettes is we now have 6 eras to choose from, I first liked only the 80/82 cars, sorry never liked the style of the C4's and still don't, and did not even take any notice of the C5's till about 2002, never had time to go to shows or read my Vette and Corvette Fever mags, but I now love the style of the C5's and before that had a 1980 for 15 years, nice to know we now have 6 Corvette eras to argue about.

Agree with you completely - they have just got that car so "right". 300C/Magnum are the only Chrysler vehicles I would contemplate and they should achieve great sales when sensibly priced, as they are in USA.

Available only through importers but fully SVA'd. This guy in Gloucester is advertising GT's for £25k and a place on Find It is advertising V6's for £17k and GT's for £26k.

The C6 Z06 (or whatever they are going to call it) will be launched at the Detroit Motor Show on the 10th of Jan so no BS from the dealer.

I agree with all the remarks on the C6 styling. I could probably get used to the rear end and the side profile is not too bad. The front end though!!!???..

That said, I got to drive a MN6 at Auto Show in Motion and it drives way better than it looks. As mine's an auto it was nice to try out the manual. The extra power is nice although the track at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway was heavily modified to keep speeds down! They need to update the looks quickly!

The front end to me looks exactly like the new shape Toyota MR2. As for the new Mustang well I haven't actually seen one but liked the look of them in pictures I've seen.
