O2 Sensor - big issue?
Discussion
I had one go on a 997.2. My OPC said so long as the display didn't say stop the car, it was OK to drive to them (I was about 25 miles away at the time) which I did. As I accelerated along a dual carriageway before joining the M25, I noticed I ran out of steam at 50MPH! So it had put itself in to limp-home mode, which I guess is its own safety system. So make sure your journey to the garage doesn't involve using roads 50MPH+ because you probably won't make it!
I'd get it in asap though. Good luck.

Hoped you guys could give me some advice.
My 997.1 has flagged up an error code relating to a faulty O2 sensor. Otherwise everything is normal.
Clearly I need to get it looked into, but how urgently should I be getting it sorted and should I be using the car until then?
O2 sensor is a really easy DIY - 20 mins at most. Disconnect the battery -ve terminal first. Next, disconnect the sensor wire from the socket (inside the back of the engine bay) then unclip it all the way down to the exhaust (about 18 inches)! Unscrew sensor from the exhaust. Screw the new sensor in. Route the wire into the engine bay, clipping it into the brackets as you go, then connect the plug to the socket again and you're done. The ECU will even have reset itself whilst the battery's been disconnected. Re-connect battery and your car's fixed. My 997.1 has flagged up an error code relating to a faulty O2 sensor. Edited to add: I'd be tempted to do both pre-cat lambdas at the same time. If one's failed, the other won't be far behind it. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised how much better the car runs too.

Yep if it comes out without having to heat it up its easy. If it doesn't and you get the sensor stuck half in half out or bugger the threads up doing so then can the recovery service and get them to collect the car.
I have changed more than my share of O2 sensor.
Yup!

Plenty of WD-40 is definitely your friend here (to get the old sensor out - NOT ON THE NEW SENSOR)!Working the threads backwards and forwards, a bit at a time, until the old sensor comes out will help make sure they don't get damaged.
