Replacement stereo for a 996

Hello, can anyone recommend a nice looking single DIN stereo for a 1998 996? My CDR 21 has finally given up the ghost and whilst it means I spend more time listening to the engine (which isn't a bad thing) it does mean I cannot easily drown out the crap I hear coming from other peoples stereos whilst sat in a traffic queue.

Not after anything bling, excessively loud or bassy which unfortunately seems to be the usual mixture of must-haves for kids these days!

Also is it a bad idea to get someone from Halfords to fit it? Not sure if there is any possible complications withe electrics etc

Becker Cascade Pro. To keep "it real", as the kids say.

Most of them are bling these days. Pioneer may have something subtle if you can't get a Becker.

Check Car Audio Security who provide a good mail order service and fitting too if you aren't too far.

I wouldn't trust Halfords with my Pork - find a reputable local installer who has worked on Pork before, or Auto Audio in London.

It's not hard to pull out one unit, unplug it, put the plug in the new unit and push it in.

However, if yours has factory Sound Pack (speakers in the doors) then you'll need something compatible as rather than using normal speaker-out cables it uses smaller wires that go to the amp in the front boot. I would imagine that a normal speaker output put through to the amp input would be too much and could therefore cause damage.

I'd suggest getting a head unit with Bluetooth built in. I have Sound Pack and a CDR-22, which meant I could just plug-n-play a Parrot kit, so if I ever have to replace the head unit I'll get one with Bluetooth (saves messing around with the sunvisor thingummybob I use instead).

I have a Kenwood KIV-700 in my turbo which seems to suit the dash pretty well. Nice display and sounds good. Doesn't have built in BT though (I have the extra module too). You might be able to get a similar model with BT built in these days (I did buy another Kenwood for the 360 a couple of months ago and very impressed with that too, but it has a poorer / dot matrix display which is disappointing after the 700 - but it did include SD card, IPOD connection, BT including streaming with excellent sound quality).
