Can anyone guide me as how to proceed to find out why the lights for the instruments on my dash do not work, the speedo and rev counter do not work at all, working right to left. Its a 1992 griff. I have checked all fuses.

I know it's the obvious but a friend has just got himself a Griff and had no idea the button was even there.

Have you pressed the button under the steering column without realizing?

Not sure about the precats but the later cars had a panel light dimmer which pretty well turned them off altogether so if there is one on your car maybe that is the problem? On my later Griff 500 it is to the left of the steering column (near your left knee and just under the dash).

I Think there is an on off switch under the dash , mine were not on when I bought the car and the previous owner used to prefer not to have them on !

Assuming it is NOT the kill switch, I would be checking the live/earth(s) under the dash top to the gagues especially if you mean the the speedo/tacho do not physically work rather than just the lights to them do not work.

will check the live earths this weekend, tried the dimmer switch and the other where your knees are, nothing. What is the kill switch? The speedo and rev physically do not work.

Kill switch is the one by your knee "kills" the dash lights and is the usual cause of "no dash lights" failing that it almost always is a duff earth under the dash.

There is a big earth strap bolted through to the chassis in the bottom left of the dash just behind the passenger door handle.
I think you might just be able to see it without taking the fishtail off if you have a bit of a poke around.
Is this OK?

Cannot see the earthing strap you speak of, so I will have to take the fishtale off. what holds this on and where, please !!

It is held on with one screw/nut on each side of the rear end. You'll need to slacken the handbrake cable to get the lever into a vertical position. Lift the whale tail high from the rear end while pulling backwards to release it from under the heater controls then lift it off of the handbrake and gear levers.

Hi Barreti, finally had the nerve today to pull the dash out and found the wires to the dash lights were not connected to switch near ones left knee. Apart from some wires still hanging around, the nine small lights in a row above the radio do not all work, left side two indicators green and from the right, side lights then main beam and fog rear fog light work, but what are the two orange and two red ? A better diagram of the wiring harness would help as one of the orange lights has no wires to it but there are some hanging around which ones do I attach? Help anyone?

I have photos of the dash wiring from when my dash was out.
Drop me a note with your email address and I'll send you some.
I can't be arsed with posting pics on here since they made it difficult.
