My T5 died earlier tonight, terminal engine seizure or something.

Anyway, need a new car today. not got time in the week, and need it by the weekend.

What do i get?

Must have a towbar.
i do 10-15 k a year with about 3k towing a caravan
rather have an estate or 4x4, estate preferred over the two.
reliability.

Current thoughts are
Accord estate,
A6 estate,
saab 95 estate,
x-trail,
v70 estate.

All for around £1500-2k
All diesels

Any comments or suggestions?

If i can find one on LPG yes, otherwise 12mpg towing hurts!

Saab 95 estate has to be in with a shout, they are extremely cheap now and from what I read on here fairly robust.

We had a 2.2 TID for 3 years and it was great, 100% reliable and great in all weathers. Real world 50+ mpg if you drive sensibly too.

The 3.0 TID is an Isuzu unit so should be pretty tough, what about one of them? Plenty of grunt!

AFAIK the 3.0 is the one to avoid, almost guaranteed problems!

Really? I thought it was the 1.9 if it the same engine they use in the Vectra C?

Like I said, the 2.2 is great and the petrol offerings seem fairly highly regarded on here

3.0 diesel Saab is indeed Isuzu - tales of expensive failures abound on t'internet. The cam belt change is really expensive. IIRC it's the same engine used in the Vel Satis.....
