I know this has been discussed before. I followed the suggested fixes but can't get them to work.

I recently had a hard drive failure on my PC. I lost my iTunes library. I plug in my iPod and it wipes the thing. Now very upset.

Luckily, our library is also on my wife's mini iPod.

How do I download everything on my wife's iPod so I can restock my library? Any help (drafted so a simpleton can understand it) would be greatly appreciated.

Were the pods setup on the same PC/Mac?

Never had this problem myself, but easiest way is to load up iTunes WITHOUT plugging in your/wife's ipod and in the settings tell it not to synchronise automatically. Also probably best to disable the start up when you plug in your ipod setting.

Once you have done that you can plug in your wife's ipod (try with yours first and make sure iTunes doesnt fire up and try to synch) and you should be able to see it in explorer (as a drive) and pull off all the mp3's. Then just move them into your library again, plug in yours and re-synch.

You may also want to check ipod lounge website as I think there are freebie tools to do all this sort of stuff for you

Just checked....goto www.ipodlounge.com and click on downloads then look for copypod 4.0. Freeware and will let you back up your wife's ipod to your PC before you restore to yours, but remember to still adjust your iTunes settings so as it does not auto synch!!

Yup.

I've never set mine to synch automatically. I just drag and drop.

Thanks everyone, especially to cropsprayer. The copypod software was excellent. I now have a populated library and 2 full iPods.
