£100K Garage: Alex Penrose

Our first PHer-sourced Dream Garage comprises V8 muscle, a highly tuned Alfa and a fearsome Porsche

Name: Alex Penrose
Previously owned: 2001 Subaru Impreza RS, 2005 Subaru Legacy 3.0R
Estate, 1999 Subaru Legacy 2.0GT Estate
Currently owns: 2012 Ford Focus, 2003 Alfa 156 V6
On the shortlist: "As a pilot I have a lot of early starts and late finishes. So first and foremost would be something perfect (and comfortable) for the 45 minute drive to the airport. An automatic and cruise control are must haves. Next is the car to have as the dog transport, so an estate is a must. Must also be able to put a smile on the face. And last but not least, the toy!"

Alfa Romeo 156 GTA Sportwagon
Cost:
£5,000
Balance: £95,000
Why I chose it: "You are not a true petrolhead until you own an Alfa (or so they say). I love my current Alfa, but have always wanted a GTA. So in order to 'justify' the car, it serves to be the perfect way to transport the Border Collie from A to Park and back! And it's red!"

Porsche 911 (996) GT2
Cost:
£55,000
Balance: £40,000
Why I chose it: "I was considering a GT3 but whilst browsing I came across this GT2! I love Porsches, and would have to be on the list so why not go for a bonkers one! Love the look of the car above, has tasty options. Enough said."

Vauxhall VXR8
Cost:
£19,000
Balance: £21,000
Why I chose it: "Well first and foremost, I am an Aussie! Having driven a fair share of these Vauxh...Holdens, they are great for eating up the miles. Comfortable, relaxing (when sitting in a high gear), and with enough performance to want to take the long way home. And it is not a German exec!"

"Now I know there is money left over. It would go to advance driving lessons to learn how to drive the Porsche, Alfa maintenance, tyres and fuel."

Just to reiterate Dan’s point from the first Dream Garage feature, thanks to all of you (far more than we expected!) who have already submitted a story. We will hope to process them swiftly and keep a steady stream of PHer Dream Garages on the site. As and when the surplus is running low we will call for submissions again!

Nice choice on the GTA. Highly underrated car, and the only GTA variant I haven't owned!

Isn't that Rob Huff's old GT2?

I'm sure I saw him at the 'Ring in it, getting his eye in for his first ever race there.

That Alfa is loveley!!

Bearing in mind I have a couple of kids and I'm including a car for the wife - My £100K garage would consist of.....

For Me: This Range Rover with standard wheels muted colour and no aftermarket chrome bits.....

For the Wife: She loves these, ideally she would want one in black - but i think they look like a hearse so the dark grey is a good compromise.

The weekend toy: Don't think it really needs any explanation.

Don't have the chance to comment on here much, but what a great subject. I am now hooked and will spend many hours deliberating with myself the various options.
First (similar to Chris Evans) my Black collection
My Fantasy £100k Black Collection includes

ASTON MARTIN VANTAGE (VH2) V8 2007 (2007) For sale Privately, in Leicestershire, United Kingdom £39,500 - Black on Black
Love the look and the sound and the power, what is there not to like!

PORSCHE 911 (996) TURBO TIPTRONIC S 2003 (2003) For sale from Christian lewis performance & classic cars ltd, in northhampton £25,995 - Black on Black
Always dreamt of owning a black Porsche 911 Turbo ever since watching Condorman as a kid

Dax Rush V8 (2000) For sale Privately, in Scotland, United Kingdom £12,500 - Black on Black
This is absolutely bonkers, A V8 in a rollerskate! an experience not to be missed.

LAND ROVER RANGE ROVER SPORT TDV6 HSE 2005 (2005) For sale Privately, in Fife, United Kingdom £17,995 - Black on Black
Then we come to the obligatory Family Load lugger and Dog carrier.

This Leaves a few thousand for a possible track day clio but couldn’t find a black one to join the collection!

Now I just need a bigger garage.

I've tried to do the Chris Evans thing of having all my choices in white but couldn't find a Boxster Spyder in white with a manual and paying £38K for an Audi A1 quattro pained me when a new S1 well spec'd is £32K & right hand drive (not that I'm buying them; may be I should relax and be less OCD).

If they're all black you'll need the extra few thousand for cleaning products.

Just done this, I wonder if I really had 100k to spend whether I would choose the same cars.

Because Aston

Because Mini GP and I'm getting one regardless of having 100k to blow

because I miss my old Jag and they can't be beat.

would do similar purpose as Jag albeit much taller and probably somehow even thirstier.

I'd do a full write up for a feature as to why each car.

and yes my colour selection is very bland. but thats just me.

but yeah, yes please to all of the above.

How modern British. Someone submits their list and most people start referring back to or publishing their lists.

5K for an Alfa V6. That is such a bargain.

Nice list, except the Porsche.

As a 'forum topic' how else did you expect it to go? 12 pages of "Nice Alfa"?

Agreed, in particular LHD ones are on the up I think. 360's are becoming the bargains now.
