Without dreading my opinion, this owner has solved all the problems of ventilation I read about in this forum.

Vents in the rear screen
Vents in the rear body
Vents in the footwell
Vents in the doorwindows.

What do you need more??

Hans

I've got no vents in mine. Will a glass rear screen blow out as easily as a lighter one? Is there likely to be any warning? Does this tend to happen at very high speeds? Gulp!

I dont think you need to worry Chris there is not the flex in the Glass one i suspect thats why.

Thanks Andrew, that is reassuring. Although I did read about the front edge of the roof breaking away from the windscreen during a road test of a '60s Griffith. That was taking it beyond 125 mph though. Apparently TVR told the magazine that another 5 mph and the back window would have gone as well. It was said as a joke, apparently!

I hope ( or dreamed) to drive fast in my Vixen so glued a reinforcement in the roof.
Hopefully it won't show in the lining when finished.

loll @ all those vents biggrin

a while ago I was thinking, some TVR had real vents in the carros, like the TVR Tuscan LWB

like you can see here behind the side windows, I was also thinking how that looks inside the cabin?
could be a interesting aftermarket way?
don't know if its only for closing the doors or also for high speed cabin pressure (enough?)

and then I thought, wait a minute, Lotus has also such cabin pressure release vents/valve's in their Lotus Elan +2...see here>

when nicely made not bad as cabin pressure release valve.

came across another picture on my PC which shows another variation of a cabin pressure 'valve' type.

on this Tuscan V8 SE 1967 (racer?) model>

My friend bought this Lotus just the other day and we are picking it up this week.
I asked him whether he sold his Vixen and bought this car just for the better ventilation.
His answer was;
" I didn't know that the Lotus had any ventilation".

The heat in the Vixen was part of the fun he told me.

indeed great looking car that Lotus, what a coincidence.

oh, I also forgot the TVR Taimar, some have also ventilation in the back of the tailgate, I guess for when closing that big lid a lot air transferring etc.

but why did not all Taimar's got that? most don't have it, was that only some period or some 'extra'

here some example's

Maybe because chances are big, there is more water coming in than air coming out?

it is not the ideal place to place them ;-)
I guess their must be some drains also in that lid but I guess those could block easily and then you could get a mess when it rains.

in my car (not TVR) there are some in the sides of the rear in the trunk? and release air behind the bumpers, those are one way 'valve's (rubber) .

Vents in the rear screen help a lot "ventilating" the cabin. I would rather suggest to "drill/cut" some 2" rondels in the screen and have a scoop/dome fixen on top ( similar to the green car but closer to the roof line)
Plastics4performance can provide the scoops/ domes and these are easy to fit
Nevertheless, I had to admit that sometimes ( when stuck in traffic or cruising at low speed ) I have the feeling that exhaust fumes are somehow " entering" the cabin...
Did anyone else had the same experince?

If the exhausts are just too short, these vents suck in exhaust fumes!!! One regular poster who works on TVRs regularly glasses them back up!! My car had them, I blocked the vent within the car to stop exhaust fumes and left the vents on the outside.

Is it the general opinion that vents should be fitted in a high speed car with a glass rear screen or are They needed for air flow on a hot day etc. I've had fairly standard m's and never really felt the need for them but if I should really fit them better to do it before my car goes to paint ? As I don't want fumes or exhaust noise perhaps venting into the the rear wheel arch may be an option (behind some sort of baffle to stop water spray etc.) thanks richard

doesn't it build up a lot of cabin pressure when slamming that big window or driving fast?

also what I was thinking of, those say Griffith (200/400 etc) type plastic rear windows could also use some of those helicopter vents...
maybe make those so that they work (open close) very easy, so when you stop or slow driving, they close automaticly (weight and newton)
and when the cabin pressure goes high, say slamming doors or driving fast, the open automaticly because of air pressure...

like say those type...

or more like a letterbox shape biggrin
those also close automaticly by Newtons law.
