redundancy and reduction in hours

Hi,
A friend works for a small family business, been there about 15yrs.

There has been mention of whether they need her anymore, she is worried if she drops some hours now (at their suggestion to reduce costs) will this affect her redundancy if that happens in a few months?

Get it in writing that it is temporary and all other contract terms remain unchanged. Needs a date to return to normal too. Imho companies genuinly (sp?) look to reduce hours to avoid making redundancies eg they simply need to save the overhead to continue trading.
