What car - ferrying 5 teenagers to the station daily.
Discussion
Evening all,
Looks like from September we'll be sharing the task of running five teenagers to the station each day to get to school.
10 miles on a B road then motorway. About 30 minutes.
We've got an old XC90 which does the job admirably.
One of the other Mums is looking at what she should buy to replace her Avensis.
Budget of about £30k
Likes some warranty - last two cars have been new Toyota Avensis.
Has test driven a Hyundai Santa Fe and quite liked it.
Toyota Corolla Verso too small.
Toyota Landcruiser she says felt too plasticky.
She's not yet looked at an XC90.
What should I suggest she looks at?

The Saxon might fit the bill - although I forgot that the onward journey to work means at least 12k miles pa - and I suspect it might be a bit juicy. One of the other parents has a Qashqai - so got to be worth a look - are they big enough once the teenagers get bigger - they look small from the outside.

Hmmm,I can't remember why but she wasn't a fan of the Q7.
Looks reasonable ok on fuel.
Maybe it was too flash.

Something with a Taxi sign on the roof?
Bizarrely, one parent suggested that a "taxi share" wouldn't cost much more than the train fares.Even as a daily trip 18 miles each way home to school must work out at £50/day.
Doctors never were renowned for their economic prowess!

Discovery 4. 7 full size seats and high level of safety.
Reliability of Discovery's has been called into question. For example Neighbour with a 57 plate Discovery, fsh, 70k miles just snapped a crankshaft. Lots of other stuff has also gone wrong.
I agree it would be perfect for the job but need convincing of reliability..

I've had three Disco's since 2006.
My first, bought new in 2006, did have a few minor niggles, but never actually let me down.
My 2010 D4 was faultless other than a warped front disc, which was probably down to the first owners driving style.
I've only done 2.5k miles in my new 2014 model, but so far so good.
I think JLR have significantly upped their game in recent years as reflected in consumer polls and surveys.
The D4 is just such a versatile vehicle. Apart from being sporty, it does everything very well. I've yet to find anything to replace it, as I do go off-road every week. Hence why I'm on my third.
Currently used D4 prices are very high, one reason why I bought a new one.
