So, I've got Friday booked off work, van arranged and paid for to collect my newly refurbished chassis and a clear bank holiday W/end to crack on with the rebuild.....
Just had a call from the company who've done the refurb/metalwork to say that the powder-coater's delivery driver has scratched it during delivery back to them. It's now got to go back to be stripped and re-painted!
GRRRRRR!!!

Yes, in truth there is plenty to be getting on with. I've got to separate the engine, bell housing and gearbox for cleaning and clutch replacement, plus clean the underside of the body and do some heat shield repair. Then there's brake calliper refurbishment to complete.
The point is that I was expecting to get the chassis built up over the weekend and that would have been a huge psychological boost, and if the chassis is not done by Friday then it wont be ready until Tuesday due to the bank holiday which pushes it back by at least a week for me. I'm living & working 150 miles away from the car so every weekend counts.
Le Mans Classic will creep up pretty quick and there's a mountain of stuff to do still, including rear end bodywork and respray.

Sorry to hear about your setback. Are you keeping a rebuild thread on this? Would be great to see you put it all back together with pics. Newbie here with all this to come.......The point is that I was expecting to get the chassis built up over the weekend and that would have been a huge psychological boost, and if the chassis is not done by Friday then it wont be ready until Tuesday due to the bank holiday which pushes it back by at least a week for me. OK, well I guess the first thing to establish is which callipers you have. Mine are the AP branded (as opposed to TVR) 4 pot units on the front. These were fitted to early cars apparently. The problem with them is that the cast aluminium body is unpainted, then there's a stainless steel plate bolted above and below each pad which the pads slide along. Because of galvanic corrosion between the two dissimilar metals the aluminium corrodes and expands under the stainless plate, this then pushes the stainless plate out of alignment and can prevent the pads from gliding in and out as they are supposed to do.
I've stripped and cleaned my callipers and I'm going to paint them to create an isolating layer between the two metals. 7 of the 8 bolts (M4 x 10 cap head machine screws) that hold the stainless plates to the callipers were also seized so I had to disassemble the units anyway to gain access to tap them round with a centre punch. I'll take some pics at the weekend - now that I'll have time on my hands!!!!

Gotta say.... Top Marks to the Metalwork company for contacting you.GRRRRRR!!!
I have begun to feel that in the budget-conscious modern era that many companies would just drop it on your door and hope that you didn't spot the mark(s) until it was too late.
Good luck with the rest of the project
How long is a piece of string. The issue is that the biggest single cost element is the metal work, and you can't really get a price for it until it's had its shot blast, so you're already committed before you can even get a cost.
My supplier advised me to budget for between £800 - £1500 (+VAT) for the metalwork. My chassis turned out to be one of the best ones they've ever seen. My total bill was as follows:
Collection - £140
Bush removal labour - £50
Blast first - £150
Metal work - £850
Replacement Rear upper wishbones x2 - £80
Zinc & Powder coat chassis - £395
Zinc & Powder coat other - £90
Diff bush kit - £69
Wishbone bush kit - £203 (includes thrust washers)
Bolt kit - £99
Total inc vat: £2551
I hope that helps.

Olly

FFS!! What is it with the TVR parts supply network? I've just arrived home after my usual week working away to find the parts delivery that I ordered from one of the 'leading' suppliers - except it's not the parts I ordered!
Do these people really expect to be considered specialists when they can't get the basics right?
