I know from experience that having the 16 plugs changed by merc should be about 350 or 400 quid. My local MB dealer quoted me 720 LMFAO!!! The sales assistant whilst helpful didn't understand that she had got it wrong and quite frankly I couldn't be arsed continuing the discussion. I will e mail them instead. Please provide me with some examples of what you have paid for this at MB. I will draw on this info in my e mail. Thanks

I don't know how much Mercedes charge for labour but I changed mine myself in about 2.5 hours and the plugs cost £112

Its doable without any special tools but slightly tricky as there is not much room around the engine

Thanks Chris, the thing is my car has only done 7500 miles from new, it's immaculate. Whilst it's had 3 oil changes it that mileage 2 x A and 1 x B service a number of items have timed out so to speak. Namely plugs, ATF, air filter, fuel filter and brake fluid. Whilst I fully appreciate that only the brake fluid is of any relevance I would like get it all done at MB so that the service history is bang on to schedule, both time and mileage. The work should cost about a grand with the correct price for plugs. A few weeks ago I called my local MB for prices, they said it would be 180 for plugs, I politely suggested that the price should be in the region of 3 to 4 hundred ( I know this because 2 other MB agents have quoted me and it benchmarks well against when I had the same job done on my old SLK32, A third more for the V8) they agreed that they had got it wrong and adjusted accordingly. I went in today to book the car in and they suggested 720 for the plugs!! With respect the assistant was lost at sea. She hadn't got a menu price in front of her but after 'referring to a technician' was trying to reference the 720 by adding 2 prices from her munu, I think one was a 6 cylinder twin spark price and one was a four cylinder price. Regardless I tried to explain that whilst her logic was admirable in its simplicity it was flawed and provided the wrong conclusion and that I wanted to determine the Labour cost on my car, not that of 2 other vehicles!!! Like I say I drew a line under the discussion and carried on with my day. It's very disappointing and awkward too, I hate being put in a situation where as customer where your telling someone how to do their job, I just hope the people at back of the MB house on top of their game. I will try and resolve it with them, but then again I might surrender my perversion for a FMBSH and go to an independent to get first class service and save myself a fortune!!!
