Does anybody know whether it is possible to "permanently" turn off the audio on the PCM system? I can press the volume button to mute it of course but when I next start the car, the audio is back on. So by permanently, I mean have no audio until I decide I want to listen to something, an old fashioned on / off switch if you like, but still have access to all of the other PCM functions?

PCM is v4.3 I believe

Cheers

Don't believe there is. Common complaint.

I've just tried this and it worked. Set the audio to disk and AUX. Switch off. Switch on and it's still on AUX. Assuming you don't have an MP3 playing permanently it should at least be quiet. Let me know if it works for you.

Sounds like a good idea - I don't have anything plugged into the AUX input, so that might well work. I'll give it a try next time I'm near the car

I think it depends on what PCM you have. If you hold down the power button (for 3 secs) does that work?

That will switch it off altogether. OP wants Info and Nav on, but peace/radio-silence when starting up!

Oh, I see what you mean.....

Can it be programed out like the stop/start switch? Have you (OP) asked the OPC? I know in the the 991 some functions can be disabled or reversed, for example I think you can now set the PSE to always on and the button used to turn it off (instead of the other way around).

No, I haven't asked the OPC yet, figured I should ask some owners in case I've just missed something obvious or there is an undocumented feature. Be great if they could set some things to be permanent instead of having to switch them on all the time, the auto start / stop would be top of my list to have that disabled all of the time, hateful thing IMO

Cheers for all replies, setting the system to AUX as a workaround still seems favorite for me

Agree, it is the most irritating function on my 997!

Mine live on Aux for this very reason. Works on the later cars I get as loaners too.

Bingo, sticking it on Aux works a treat. Thought for a minute that if PCM hadn't detected an input on that channel that it would switch to another source, but it doesn't appear to.

I do wish you could turn audio off independently, but this is an acceptable workaround. Cheers
