Ah, thanks for that.
@Jamie, I do want to get the fluid and filter changed but I reckon I can do that myself - it was more a couple of things I wanted to talk to an expert about. On cold starts it sometimes feels a touch jerky changing up and one time recently it didn't seem to blip the throttle on downshifts, making for lurchy changes. Was fine the next time I drove the car but was hoping for an expert opinion, which is why I don't want to take it to my local Jag dealer...

I would suggest doing the fluid change first. It altered the behaviour of mine a little - the tail off in performance over the years I had it wasn't noticeable until it got fresh oil and suddenly everything was slick and crisp again. I do however understand what you mean about needing expert help and I'd likewise suggest seeking out that expertise
.
Do you have any idea how old your TCM firmware is?
Most of the ZF 6 speed issues on Jags are either slight under-voltages due to a weakening battery and thus insufficient power to control the solenoids properly or degraded fluid though, so I would make sure you're happy they're both hunky dory before getting worried about gearbox costs.
