Renault Laguna V6 2963cc 12v Z7X Water Pump Help

My Water Pump seems to have failed today. I have enquired about getting it fixed and have quotes from £250 - £600!
I have also got a price for a new pump at £58 but can I manage it myself? I can't find a manual on this car or engine anywhere. Renault Parts dept said it was easy to do but their service dept said it was 6 hours work! I wondered if it was fairly easy as I understand that the engine has a Cam Chain so this would be seperate unlike the later 24v Cam Belt engine. Or does the Cam Chain have to be removed to get to the Waterpump?
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
I intend to keep this car for some time and it has had only one lady owner from new so is barely run in. However I understand that the Auto box is the weak link. If and when this finally lets go can I convert it to Manual and what model could I get the donor box etc from? Is this a very difficult job?
