Title says it all really - pulled my hamstring / groin (no laughing at the back...!) last weekend and now a MASSIVE bruise has developed on the back of my leg. Is this normal....?

Like an idiot I carried on walking round on it for the rest of the weekend (I was away at the time), which I guess hasn't helped, am just wandering what's best to to do to speed up recovery / minimise damage? At the moment I'm keeping it elevated when I can and icing it a couple of times a day. I've also got some Hirudoid cream which the chemist recommended. It's not actually that painful, just feels really tight / stiff and obviously looks really bad!

Any advise appreciated!

Si

Ye quite common with hamstring tears and had it myself, not something to worry about in isolation but if it's particularly sore / not getting better could be worth getting checked?

Also should have said generally icing is only for initial 48 hours or so.

Plenty of rest and a massage helped mine though it was agony!

Cheers fella, glad it's not just mine that's reacted like that! I thought the ice might be too little too late, unfortunately this wasn't my main priority half way through a messy weekend in Amsterdam..... Hindsight eh...!

That's normal. I tore my hamstring playing football and it was purple for days afterwards. Horrific pain to be fair, really uncomfortable and I had to do clutch on way home!!
