Google maps, Nurburgring, whats going on?

Idle curiosity here.
Last night I was looking at the Nurburgring on google maps and noticed that at the time the aerial photos were taken there was a HUGE event going on.
There seems to be hundreds of thousands of people camping in and around the F1 track, the surrounding areas and also about half the length of the Nordschleife is also taken up with people camping...
The paddock area seems to strangly less packed, and there are lorrys and cars parked all over both tracks, which rules out this being a motorsport event in my mind...
Maybe it is Germany's equivalent of Glastonbury but I cant find any large Stages either...
Anyone have any ideas?
