HELP VAG 1.9tdi BXE loss of power.

My brothers just called me to say his Golf has lost power. Its struggling to get past 2000rpm on the motorway and it has the dreaded BXE engine code.

I asked him if there was any smoke coming out the car and he said no. Any ideas? I dont have much insight into diesel engines for this reason!

I did tell him not to buy a Golf with the BXE engine but did he listen.... NO!

He says it sounds normal but im not sure he can tell as the engines as refined to listen to as a tractor on a normal day.

Could just be the intercooler pipe which has popped off if it's still running properly, albeit without power.
