Canon 20D. Fantastic saving.

Issues:
1 dead pixel on the bottom left of the LCD screen
USA power supply pins - sorted with an adaptor.

For the saving, I'm happy to put up with the dead pixel.

Initial thoughts comparing the 2 cameras (EOS 300D):
- The buttons were more pleasant to use on the 300D, softer/easier to turn.

- Shutter is much noisier on the 20D

- 20D only feels a little heavier

- continuous shooting is staggering on the 20D, a cacophany of noise, and there's 30 odd pictures taken before you realise it.

Handing over the 300D and all the associated bits tomorrow....seriously thinking about keeping it as a spare camera as its been a fantastic machine. One moment to think about it.... need the cash to put towards the new camera, so its off to a lucky new owner.

Advice:

If you can afford it, and need the features, go for the 20D or the 10D. The 300D is a truly awesome camera, and at a fantastic price.

No pictures taken yet on the 20D, apart from test shots, but will no doubt put something up by the weekend.

Glad you like the 20 luca, I still can't justify the cost of changing the 300 for the 20.

I've just received a letter from canon inviting me to a demo session at a local shop......maybe things will sway me

Re the dead pixel on the LCD, when I first purchased the 300D it had a single blue pixel on all the time, so I jumped back in the car and had it replaced straight away. later upon reading the manual i came across a line of text that said stuck pixels on the lcd are acceptable and not to be considered a fault.

Enjoy the new toy and I look forward to seeing some of the shots from it.

How was it declared, eg 'gift', and was a value cited? IE were you just lucky or did the sender lie outrageously?

Noted as a gift, which was stated as a camera with no value.

I read the notes about one dead pixel not being a fault, but I'll live with that.

Which of course was true -

How much did it set you back if you don't mind me asking?

Love my 300d, but the lack of AF Servo in manual modes is a right pain for tracking cars with a slow shutter speed! Does the 20d do this?

Cheers

I am going to states in 2 weeks time and planned to buy D70, what sort of adaptor did you get?

Got an international adaptor thingie in Comet (£5), and dremeled off the outer plastic ring so the charger would fit flush. The charger didn't come with a cable attached with pins at the end, just pins sticking out of the charger, hence the need to modify the front of the adaptor.

Haven't had time to take any piccies yet . Plus its dark all the time I'm not at work. Off to Racing Green TVR tomorrow night to shoot their Xmas Fair setup. Hopefully, it'll perform well.

Re. getting the cable from the manufacturer, I didn't want to wait, and the adaptor works just fine. Do bear this in mind when you get yours from the USA, and see if they'll throw in an adaptor, if it needs one.

Yep, unfortunately I have spent emptied my 'impulse purchase account' on the new track car so the 1 day auction is too soon, but I will keep an eye on his items!

Luca,
The 20D has REALLY suprised me just how well it meters light. Point it at dark or light subjects but it's VERY hard to catch it out.

Luca, mains voltage in the states is 110V.
Im assuming you have alreday checked the charger will accept 240V?

(The thought of it being damaged makes me cringe!)
