newbie drying carpets already
Discussion
Hi guys, picked up my 98 4.0 chimp on Saturday and am loving it!Though I've got a couple of questions for all you Jedi dudes.
First where does the driver footwell carpet usually get soaked from,I notice theres a black dome on the inner wing thats already been mastic'd to oblivion
and
Second whats that small twiddly thing on the steering column, its not instrument dimmer or wiper delay any clues?
Lastly is the wipers failure to park consistently an easy fix?
Of course none of this matters when i get my dose of v8 at tickover mmmmmm
Cheers

Ah yes
Water Ingress - could possibly be:
-collecting in front wing under where that mastic is - well spotted
-roof
-door rubbers
-collecting in door because drain holes are blocked
-round windscreen if not fitting properly
Plenty of other possibilities have been suggested.
Knob?
Alters the delay on the windscreen wipers' intermittent setting!
Welcome to TVR-dom
Quirk #3? Dunno, there'll be a smartypants along any moment though!!!
Can I squeeze in a quick "They All Do That Sir!" ?

If the carpet gets really wet its a good thing, cos when you're upside down in the footwell with your friend pouring on water you can see where its coming from. Usual suspects are: BRAKE RESEVOIR check rubber seal--- BLACK INSPECTION COVER( as yours is masticked up try cleaning all old mastic off and start again)and check clutch fluid whilst at it--- and the holes behind the pedals. There are many other causes and of course most water ends up in the footwells anyway, just keep looking. Congrats on getting your car, enjoy it even if it is a bit wet
sounds like the contact arm on the wiper motor is weak and breaking contact early there is a round plate at the top of the motor, remove this and you should see copper contacts just bend these out so as to make better contact and reassemble.welcome to the world of tvr it takes some getting used to but becomes a drug
Afternoon all, just my tuppence worth on the park switch thing. If you look at the location of the park switch it's just beneath the wiper motor. Bearing in mind the exposure this place gets to the elements it's no wonder it gets corroded and generally knackered. It can be removed and cleaned thoroughly which may resurrect it for a while. You may find it easier to just buy a new park switch and then reattach it covered in loads of vaseline or some such other protectant. It's just one of those TADTS things I'm afraid.
P.S. I've just started to use Firefox from Mozilla and want to see if the smileys work........ here goes....
