Anyone changed the main coolant pipes ?
Discussion
It requires you to remove the side mouldings..... so you need to remove the cab moulding (and disconnect all electrics, steering column and remove doors, gas rams etc).... therefore the front and rear clip need to come off..... and engine/gearbox ned to come out to get to the cab fixings. This is a Major job.... pretty much a complete rebuild.
One of the reasons I got my GTR for the price I did was that it once had a leak in one of the coolant pipes down the side (aluminium ones that I think had corroded from being stood for a long time). The previous owner had stripped it down to fix and rebuild...... and I bought it in its dismantled state..... it now has Stainless coolant pipes !
Good Luck

Anyone attempted to change the main coolant pipes down the side pods of a fully built GTR before?
thinking of installing a set of new ally pipes to replace the old orignal factory steel ones currently on the car.. havent even look at the logistics of it yet though..
Steel? my car is a 2002 build and has alloy pipes running through, I have this down as a job to replace all of the flexible pipes, the solid pipes may prove to be a challenge requiring replacement in several sections joined with flexible.thinking of installing a set of new ally pipes to replace the old orignal factory steel ones currently on the car.. havent even look at the logistics of it yet though..

ETS as per the post above, looks like cut out old, replace in sections.

pretty sure the factory used to list steel coolant pipes back in the early 00s..havent given them a thorough clean and check yet,but they looked like steel when I had a quick look at them when quickly reconnecting the system...mind you I didnt even bend down to look closely...so it could have just been some brown mud..

My old coolant pipes were steel (and rusty) prior to the rebuild. The car was originally built in 2000/01.
Have you got luggage containers fitted?
If not it may be possible. Not easy, and you would have to have a join in the pipe in the middle of the side pod.
Not sure I would try to 'fix' this unless there was a leak or you are doing a full rebuild.

cheers, but I will be spending the day with mother dearest... as she is coming to say for the weekend...looking at the pic, I think its doeable without removing anything major.... by no means easy though.. and depnds on what you feel is major lol..
My bodywork is bolted on.
The center section determines the positions of all other panels, usually the side pods are used for this.
I made flanges from GRP at several places where the center section rests on the chassis.
The flanges only touch the chassis at the rivnut locations, otherwise a small gap exists that will be filled by a sealing tape when finally mounted. Hope that makes sense.
I made the dash removable too to ease lifting the center section. Did this numerous times but have not tried it with the screen in yet.
A temporary stiffening bar from side to side would be required to avoid cracking the screen.
The side pods can be removed seperatly, but as they are bulky and not very stiff
it is not as easy as intended.
I will modify them by making a side splitter that remains fixed to the car.
Only the outside panels of the side pods then need to be removed. These will have an integrated air channel from the front wheels to the engine bay similar to the mock I made.

No, tanks not moved, made new tanks.
Of course not finished yet. I work way too slow.
They will have internal catch tanks with trap doors and internal pumps.
If I could only find a properly designed fuel pump controller....
Daniel, do you mean the luggage containers or the chassis structure.
Nothing changed at the chassis in this area. Luggage containers need to be as small as
the top opening to remove them upwards. The battery is located in front of the right one.
Don´t want to hijack this thread. I will think about opening a thread of my mods but don´t know
where to begin. Nearly every part is modified in some way. Would be easier to describe the unmodified parts.

These look great, top job! Would request a set had we not had our endurance spec tank fitted!Of course not finished yet. I work way too slow.
