I'm new to these and seriously considering using one to get a 12 month old car.

I understand how it all works, and I've got a quote from the dealer.

Question is, would there be room for negotiation about the guaranteed final value figure?

Asking the sales guys "so what do you think it'll be worth in 24 months with XXX miles?" the answer I'm getting are quite a bit further north of the GFV..

Is that final value fixed and worked out from set-in-stone criteria, or is it something I may be able to negotiate up a bit, in order to keep the monthlies down a tad...

It's an F-type so there's no evidence to say what a 3-year old one with 35k miles will be worth...

(FYI, GFV says 30k, dealer says "oooh nearly 40k")

I can do 25k over 2 years.. 35k will sting a bit!

Also, looking at XKRs a 3 year old one seems to be late 30's early 40's depending on spec etc. so guessing f-type should fare at least as well, if not a little better (v8s and xkr are similar price new, excluding options).

Cheers

"Computer says" on this one, at least when I worked with them it was. You can knock the GFV down to improve your equity at the end but not increase it.

Cool, that was easy!

Best concentrate on the headline figure then...

Whilst comparing f-type to XKR prices I've now spotted XKR-S are sat around 50k... tempted by one of them now!

With most dealers, the GFV/GMV is set by the manufacturer and can't be changed by the dealer. The best they can do is discount the list price.

Have you had a look at buying a brand new one? Sometimes the apr offered on a brand new car is more competitive than on a used one, so the payments work out roughly the same (Or if you're lucky, cheaper), also when buying new you can push for discounts.

A V8S can be had for 76000 before options
V6s for 64000
and a V6 for 56000

Funny that. Ask him to write it down.

PCP used to leave you with equity in the car which would be the deposit for your next PCP.

I practice now the GFV is set as high as they dare in order to keep everything else as low as possible. They don't usually set the GFV too low.

As mentioned in the previous post, PCP works best with new cars (it was invented to keep factories busy building cars).

Currently looking at a v8s with 15k miles and a boat load of options for 65k... would be over 80k new.. it's what put me off initially but the 12 month old cars from HQ are finding there way out there now. Looking very attractive.

Sorry, my bad. Yeah, usually you can spot HQ cars by their reg prefix, so I'd avoid those cars as much as possible. I think Jag's demonstrators use OU OY or VX
