Ins. company will give you market value less any excess, then buy it off them for pittance and repair it!.

New door, wing, a bit of filling and painting.. job done!

Crying shame. Thats a straight write off - value will be hard to fight for so get scouring the classifieds for similar to get the value up.

Sill is obviously bent - it's unrepairable at any reasonable cost.

Get a quote or two, and claim direct against his insurer whilst informing your own.

Many insurers seem to be settling with cash-in-lieu now which means you get your cracker of a car fixed with no VIC marker stigma against it.

Me neither, and outer sill panels are readily available for NAs even if it is bent.

I am ok, bit sore as my head hit the top of the windowscreen, and my ribs are a bit tender from the seat belt but its minor.

The sill has got damag, so pretty sure they will write it off. Just wondering whata likely setelment figure will be.

Is it a special edition? If so find similar ones on autotrader or on here and let the insurance co know the price. They'll pay up eventually. Definately buy it back, mine cost me 100 quid.

In answer to your question, about £ 1500.

Sadly, probably nothing like what it was worth to you. You'll get whatever a typical mk1 MX5 in "good condition for the year" is worth. I'd be very surprised if it's more than £2000 and it could be half that.

Make sure you have any 'before and after' photos of your work available and ready to send on via disc or email.
Also any receipts of materials and/or parts and outside labour, to prove that this was no 'snotter'.
Old mots to prove low mileage could be helpful.

If their offer isn't what you are expecting, challenge the insurance company to find one in similar condition with such low miles for a comparison ! ( as long as you do your homework...)

Oh.... and has been mentioned..... Buy it back wink

Good luck !

eta... Is it on classic insurance ?? If so, how much per annum.. Compare fix cost to mx5(through not claiming) to the increase in premiums on other policies if you DO make a claim !

Buy it back for next to nothing and MEV it over a period of time. I'd love to do that if I had the space for it.

With the mechanical work you've done on it, it'd certainly make a good donor for a kit car project. smile

The sill doesnt look too badly damaged wouldnt be too bothered about that, I would be more concerned that the A pillar is twisted with the damage to that door.

If this happened today.. And you got sore ribs and head, just wait till tomorrow it's going to hurt like hell. As for the car insurance company will pay you (try) market value which will be a low ball offer. As many have said, do your research fo adverts of equivalent mileage spec year, condition. Secondly go see the doc, if you have bruised ribs you need to make sure nothing untoward....oh, I'm not into blame culture but it's a fact ...You have technically been injured in this accident( police should have been present/called) you have a claim on this and likely worth more than the car.

I am actually OK this morning... and definitely not into claim culture...

It has made me think however that 1/10 of a second later and I would have hit the side of him... and the result to me from that would have been VERY different in a 20 years old car with no impact protection or air bags...

Made me think a bit to be honest...
