Tank for grantura mk 3
Discussion
Good morning,
I am looking for a Grantura mk 3 tank ( U shape type - tank with recess for spare wheel). Does anyone know where to get one ( good condition or repro)?
Just seen something similar ( Alloy race tank) on Andy Wiltshire site. Does this one fit the standard " round shaped rear" grantura's?
Thanks and have a great motoring day!

Hi Richard,
I was looking for a "U" shape tank able to accommodate a spare wheel too. I would prefer a standard shape one, but would not exclude eventually a " race style" one ( if not successful in getting the original shape style).
Do you have a price in mind? Did Andy Wiltshire manufacture yours ? ( just talked to him today )
Does your tank have a top middle or top RH side " entry" neck ? Any chance to fit the 6 hole sender on the RH side? Any chance to get some pictures?
Thanks and best regards

I have all my tanks made by some very good fabricators in the Wokingham/Bracknell area. They can do anything you like TIG welded in ally fuel tanks, swirl pots catch tanks all a lot better and cheaper than the usual c"!p.
The Grantura tank is designed for a race car, so no U shaped bit. As it is narrow at the top it would be a challenge to fit an inspection plate although we fitted a vertical fuel sender unit to the tank in my 1800S. Filler is at the centre top, desiged for an Aston type fuel filler
I will try to dig out some photos

I would really appreciate if you could add some pictures. I do not really understand what do you mean "narrow" at the top.
Is it possible the cut a side hole for a fuel sender ( for the moving coil type of gauge)?
To change the neck from middle to the side should not be a problem. Let me get the pictures first and we stay in touch.

Is your car for track or road use? Personally if it's a road car I would not like to share the same space with 60+ litres of fuel contained in a thin soft easily torn container separated from the outside world by 6mm of GRP.
Different situation in a competition car with 3 layer nomex suit and all the associated goodies, full cage, built in fire extinguisher system and marshals every 100 metres.
Do you not have an original tank you could use as a pattern. It is a very complicated shape with the rear panel curved in 2 directions to mirror the shape of the rear of the car. When I made mine it's in 16 gauge stainless with 14 gauge front to rear baffles to help with rear impact strength. It is a LOT more complicated than you think

It is a street car and have no intention to use it for racing. I want to replicate the original tank in order to be able to have space for a spare wheel. The original tank ( treated with a sealant which is coming out now most probably due to the biotethanol in petrol) was probably treated by the previous owner for rust issues, but right now the time has come to make a new one ( Alu preferably). Have to find the right person able to do proper weldings...or modify a race one...

Thanks a lot. I will give a try....hope to find someone able to do it in SS. Probably, much more difficult than in Aluminum
Have a great weekend

Enjoy your aluminium race tank.
