I have owned my MY2009 Sports Pack V8V for 7 months and 5000 miles now and life's good! I ignored all the usual advice and have test driven a Vantage S (but not yet a V12V). For me, the most noticeable difference in the driving experience was the faster steering rack on the S. So my question is, is it possible to retrofit the faster rack to older cars and has anyone on here had it done? I can see myself eventually trading up to a V8S or even a V12V sometime but that won't be for several years so in the meantime I wonder how possible this mod is.

I think this is a mod I'll also look at in time. MikeyK has also commented this is one of the more noticeable differences between the S and previous 4.7.

Maybe worth asking the question on the BR sticky, Pete, as I'm sure Mike will know.

Chatting to him about a few things at the moment, so will also ask next time I speak to him.

Just need to see if I still have a spare kidney to sell by that point, or if I would have already traded it in for exhaust/ suspension/ brakes.

Personally I would get your existing steering checked to ensure it is set up correctly.

I appreciate your never going to improve the ratio but you can optimise what you have.

The faster rack makes an enormous difference. It was the first thing that I noticed on a preliminary test drive.

No really, there is nothing "wrong" with my steering, it's just that having come from a car with a faster rack and having driven the V8S with a faster rack I would quite like to go that way if possible. If you haven't test driven a V8S then try one to see the difference for yourself, or don't if you're prone to the odd impulsive purchase biggrin

Think I will ask BR as no one seems to have much to say about it on here - mention exhausts and the thing goes viral but let's not forget, power is nothing without control!

BTW love your new car Adam - welcome to the green Aston club, very exclusive. When is collection day?

You could get a slightly smaller steering wheel. Put an Aston Boss. Horn logo. Instantly more responsive steering.
Hmmmm. I did this to my Mini nearly 30 years ago but it's not quite the kind of mod I had in mind for my Aston nono
