When the salesman was going over the car with me, he said to put the car in Neutral then turn off the car and apply handbrake.

Is it also ok to leave it in Drive and turn the car off and pull the handbrake? The car seems to have trouble restarting when I did this.

My Sportshift 1 always puts itself into gear when I switch it off. (locks up the transmission)

Have to pull the both paddles back twice and apply the handbrake before switching off for it to stay out of gear.

is it a problem if it stays in gear?

I very much doubt it would let you if it was

I don't leave my handbrake on, after a week it tends to bind especially if the first movement is backwards once you start.

Fair point. Last night, the car wasn't starting so I thought it was because I left it in drive. So you have been doing it and not had any problems or you have a flat driveway and don't need to put handbrake on?

I tend to put mine in neutral if I'm on the flat before handbrake and then switch off. If it's on a slight rise then I leave it in gear.

TBH the gearbox resets itself every time you enter the car (you can hear it whirring when you open the drivers door).

I make sure I have it neutral when stationary on an incline when driving though and apply the foot brake. The dealer said if you don't you'll burn out the clutch real quick. Makes for some left foot brake shuffling at the lights or in traffic smile

According to the docs:
- Shut off while in Neutral or 1st, car will stay in 1st
- Shut off while in Reverse, car will stay in reverse
- Shut off after pulling back both handles twice, car will stay in neutral

That is how it seems to work for me.

FYI: I've seen starting problems because it doesn't think you have the brake depressed when you try to start it.
