Well taxed the griff for the start of may, day off and the suns out, brilliant ....made plans with son for a run out come shakedown for the booked mot on the 17h, so down the garage to check all fluids, reduce the over inflated tyres back down to useable levels, and a good look over everything as its not been on a run since October time. Everything looking good its off to the petrol station where on exiting the car I notice an odd burning smell, things didnt seem to be amiss with the running of the car, rolled fine in neutral so brakes not binding, carried on till I reached a pub and pulled into the car park, smell still present so popped the bonnet and found the source ....

Do not leave your magnet inspection lamp resting against the dustbin exhaust, it reduces it to a molten mess! !

But once removed smell was obviously gone and the car drove beautifully and looking forward to another year of some decent drives.

Glad to hear there was a happy ending!

I once forgot to replace the oil filler cap and left it on the inner wing or rocker cover, after a 20 mile drive I opened the bonnet to see that the filler cap was missing, a closer look showed that it was welded onto the exhaust manifold with melted the plastic!

I have done that on a track day - marshalls were RAF, so not at all phased by a car stopping by them with smoke pouring out of the bonnet vents! hehe

Huge respect for your honesty rigga, a lesser person might have kept that one quiet wink
