I am not too sharp on what's good and what's not in the field of TV . For those in the know, what does this set up sound like? I do like samsung !

Samsung UE46F8500 LED smart TV
Samsung BDF 5500 3D bluray player
Samsung HWF 355 Bluetooth soundbar 120W

I am looking for a system appropriate to an average sized lounge and don't want a full home cinema system. I want to be able to play music through the soundbar from an ipad/phone. I assume if the TV has wifi, I don't need a bluray player that also has Wifi?

I assume the smart TV can be hooked up to wifi and it will enable surfing the internet on the TV (with a seperate keyboard i guess).

Any comments appreciated. That setup comes in at about £1418 from PRC Direct.

Thanks.

What size screen do you want.....42, 50, 55 inches? Soundbars are great but many block the TV remote control sensor if you are using the smart functions.

Probably a 46" TV, they seem to be about the same size as my older 40"" samsung LED TV which has a 2" case around the viewable screen.

Good screens today are edgeless so you will get a full 46 inch picture. A decent Blu ray player can vary in price from just over £80-300 without going mad. Sony and Panasonic still make the best players with stunning picture quality, ease of use and good sound. Soundbars vs the new much improved sound boxes is a different matter. I would look closely at spending £400 on the Canton DM 50. A great sound from a good looking box and it takes up so much less space than a soundbar but with no loss of quality.

As for a screen do some research as to what ticks your boxes.....smart functions, refresh rate, deep blacks, rich colours and weight. As for which make they are much of a muchness today as many of the internals are the same.

I went for the following when I upgraded recently:

Samsung UE55F8000 TV
Samsung BDF6500 Blu ray player
Yamaha YSP-2200 sound bar with a Logitech bluetooth adaptor.

They all work together beautifully using HDMI CEC. The sound bar is perhaps a bit pricey but a previous (Samsung) sound bar was very disappointing. TV and bluray player are great however.
