Auto or manual Z4

I have set my heart on getting a Z4, 3.0l coupe to be exact. I was just wondering what people have experienced in regards to both the manual and automatic gearbox's.

I obviously need to test drive both, but thought I would get some guidance beforehand.

Personal choice, but we had a 3.0i manual and it is a really nice box. Nothing wrong with the auto but I think it suits the manual better (and there are more manuals to choose from).

For a "sports car" always manual.

I thought the manual would be the more popular choice, as it probably suits the characteristics of the car better.

Had an Auto. Kinda regretted it after a while. Perfectly good box as you'd expect from BMW but a manual makes you feel more involved and as a result it becomes more enjoyable IMO.

Great little cars the Z4. And best looking in coupe form too

Another vote for the manual 'box. These cars are wasted with an auto.

Definitely manual. I've got the coupe with the manual box, didn't even consider the auto.

For the 3.0 Z4 I would certainly say go for the manual as I have a 330i auto and that engine cries out to be mated to a manual gearbox to get the best out of it for sure but I also owned a Z4M but the manual gearbox in that was the worst I have experienced in pretty much any car I have owned...which is sad when you think how great the 3.2 straight six engine is.

As for manual or auto, I've had two, both of which were manuals, though the peeps who have autos rate them highly and the newish 8 speed is supposed to be excellent, but not relevant here
