I`m aware these cars suffer from twitchy steering on certain road surfaces , i feel like im trying to keep it in a straight line .

Done some reading and it seems to be something to do with the length of the front upper wish bones .

Speaking to guy today with a Morgan three wheeler ,he had the same problem until he fitted a shorter wishbone and adapter .

The bump steer is now non existent .

I wonder if this could be done with the Chimaera front wishbones .

Set up, set up, set up.

Mine's fine, rock solid with its present damper settings and springs, and proper full geo..
But you need the right springs for the dampers you have (Nitrons), and a proper geo done on good equipment.

Talk us through your dampers, springs, and when you last had the suspension checked for play and fully geo'd.

I think you might benefit from a little drive over to see Mat Smith. See you Monday for a chat about it.

Those springs came standard with the shock absorbers . That`s what they recommended .

Ride height is 145/160

Don't think your ride height is the issue. Spring weights are different for Nitrons compared to GGPs, but I am surprised your fronts are so much softer than your rears.

My car was awful to drive, very twitchy. Got it geo'd, every single setting was wrong. Hence I repeat my question - have you had a full geo?

It's the first thing to do. Ask him about spring rates when you phone him to book. He may have suggestions. Springs aren't expensive. Wishbones are.....

Looks like HE started out with equal length wishbones on that thing so converted them to be un-equal lengths. You already have unequal length wishbones as standard being a TVR.

Bump steer in your case is likely a geometry vs tyre/wheel problem. Bump making wheels go toe out is most likely cause, Its not just a case of doing a static geo on 4-wheel, you also need to see how the settings change as you compress the suspension, even then you cant see whats happening as bushes & tyres load up. There can also be problems with steering rack alignment so TRE's geometric swings are causing adverse affects (seems like there are some rack mount / TRE design variations ~ not all cars the same syndrome), never mind some of the varieties of caster due to upper BJ fitment?.

Mine is standard wheels on standard suspension & standard shockers....

...and the drive is fine. Are some of the problems introduced by bigger wheels etc do you think?

Yes, if you haven't had it geo'd since.
Geo first, then see how it is.

The 215/45/17`s on the front are being swopped for 215/40/17 so they will be for sale, only done 300 miles and the ACT Y piece will be for sale ,i`m having one of Clive`s .

Take to centre gravity , top job and they r the boys who after taking it several other indies even ones mentioned here are the only ones who did a proper and comprehensive job. Otherwise just second guess , they're not cheap but spot on, and you would not need to post again

Apart from any errors in geometry, bigger wheels on the front of a light car are a nightmare- you end up with the wheels steering the car, not the other way round-

If the overall diameter of the wheel and tyre is the same as the standard setup, then they should be fine IMHO. Daz is going for 215/40 17, 603mm diameter. The standard is 205/55 15, 606mm diameter. His 215/45 17 setup, at 624mm, might be suffering as you suggest, but I run that on track and it seems fine to me.

Hear what you are saying.

Its no so much the diameter- but the width- as you effectively increase the leverage the tyre has on the steering. Ive always had problems on the G33 with what I thought was bump steer that made it really hard work to drive. Resetting the geometry did help to a point (more toe in makes it more stable in a straight line), and the ride height needs to be correct in relation to the steering rack position to minimise bump steer. The best and easiest fix after all was a tyre change from a 215 to a 205, and a change of brand to the Toyo proxy had a huge affect.

If the front springs are indeed softer than the rears on his car, that's dead wrong. It needs to be the other way round.

He's right you know, until you take it to CofG you're wasting your money, the car will not be as good as it can be until Chris has had a fettle.
