Discussion
Hi Guys,
Hope all is well
first real post on here, so here goes, i've always been interested in photography from a young age, and feel iam slowly improving, and at the moment do a lot of railway and aircraft photography but i want to move towards the car side of it all, and try something a bit different. And with your help i'd like to make this happen. It doesnt matter if it has two wheels or four wheels, i want to photograph your motor!
Now as i'm still leanring myself i wont be charging for these shoots, but i can offer you high res photos of your pride and joy and prints if needed
Located in Woking Surrey, but dont mind travelling for something special
this is my flickr so you can see what else i can do with a camera
https://www.flickr.com/photos/115023160@N03/
So does anyone want to help a photographer out and in return get some pics of your cars??
Contact me through here, or email me at matthewtomsphotography@live.co.uk
Many thanks
Matt

Im not over your way, Im also learning how to use my camera still. Only had it about 6 years now but never seem to keep on.
I have some friends over near you who I will ask and see if any of them would let you get some practice. Pretty sure they would love a few pictures.
I think one of them is into his car photographing so could see if he has any pointers too.

When I was first getting into it, I was told to shoot dull, boring cars. If I could make one of those look interesting, then I'd find it easier with a nice car. I've found it to be great advice as it helps you focus on composition, lighting, backgrounds etc whereas a poor photo can be masked by a nice car. The style of your non-car photography is very atmospheric, so apply to that to some car shots and I think you'll be on to a winner!

None of your other (perfectly good) work has crazy angles in it - why do it for cars? Would you have a steam train careering down a 45 degree slope?
Not quite sure why you are criticising... there are many pro shooters which shoot at angles! (but yes, maybe that 1st Beemer pic is a bit too angled!) every shot is different, I don't think angled shot would work with steam trains... Jaye - Good luck Matt, look forward to seeing your results
and very mate, already had two offers which i shall be taking up this month
Reechard - that would be mega mate thank you
comments on the angles taken on board
just something i was experiementing with, win some you lose some, shall limit the amount i do in the future
but thank you for the crit, it all helps, as to taking a photo of a steam loco at an angle would look oh so wrong
And fully agree with the DTM photo the angle was far to extreme, but its something different.....
Rogue86, cheers buddy, yeah i would consider my railway photography to my strong point with a camera, but getting a bit bored of being a one trick pony! got a few cars lined up already thanks to this post, so shall be posting them up as soon as we have done them this month, cannot wait!
But big thanks for all the posts guys, it will only help me to develop and improve with the camera, so far this month now i have 3 cars too shoot, a pair of Ferrari's thanks to a member here who has been most helpful
and also a TVR agreed this afternoon, can't wait to get shooting now.
All the best

I actually like that one. It's very difficult to have a unique shot of something photographed by thousands. But just like everything - done IN MODERATION doesn't hurt.... i would consider my railway photography to my strong point with a camera, but getting a bit bored of being a one trick pony!
This is the thing, so many photographers try to be good at everything. Only the ones that specialise become successful. Have you ever heard of a famous baby/car/macro/paparazzi/porn photographer? Find your niche. Railway photography being your strong point? Why don't you try to pursue that particular genre and become AMAZING at it instead of being GOOD at many others. Another thing is, always consider how much competition will you face. There's a thread on here every week saying "I want to become a car photographer", I'm yet to see the same but in regards to trains.
Ah yeah, one more thing - DO NOT EVER post photos anywhere using Thumbsnap!! They look s
t and many people will not go to your Flickr page and will judge you on what they see. Just post them everywhere using Flickr function.Edited by rottie102 on Tuesday 6th May 21:32
