Watching an old TG and they're taking the piss out of James because they knew he was going to blame his slow time on the car "developing a flat spot"

So can/does this happen?

my old 2 stroke bike developed a flat spot where i was just driving around town not going fast, for a number of months, and after pinning the throttle in every gear then going onto the motorway with fairly high revs for the duration it takes to go from one junction to the next (with a top speed of 110) it chucked out a load of smoke out the exhaust and ran a lot better after that. as the exhaust system had coked up after driving normally round town for a number of months.


so yes, but not under normal conditions, and there might be something else wrong other than coked up exhaust systems, like valves or something

I fitted a K+N air filter to my Type R and it seems to have developed a flat spot between 2000 and 3000rpm . Should I revert to OEM?

are you seriously asking if flat spots are real or a motoring myth?

i'm guessing you must be the kind of person who take the manufacturers service interval recommendations, and halves them, then halves them again to have never experienced a flat spot
