Cracked Alternator

Wanna get your guys views on this..

a While ago, after washing the Jeep's engine, I notice a crack in alternator casing, close to the bracket.. Decided on a quick fix, that turned into a semii permanent one.. But for how long can I push my luck on this?

Forever probably.

I wouldnt have bothered witht he jubilee clips either.

But what cause it to crack in the first place then ?

If the belt is tensioned by the alternator, probably someone levering it with a crowbar to tension it.
I'd say it'll bé fine.

Dunno, but I hope those clips are secure, you wouldn't want them working loose and getting caught in the belt.

I don't think the clips are necessary - it's probably as bad as it's going to get and as it's bolted to the rest of the alternator by 3/4 bolts it can't move.

I think the clips are good preventative measure.
They seem to be skewed over though. The band will be far more secure if it's on straight.

Belt is not tensioned by the alternator, but by a tensioner, spring loaded pulley

The alternator is secured via 2 bolts and cant move

I know they not 100% straight, but its the best I could get it, so would say its 99%, as there's another mounting bracket at the bottom , and the shape of it
