Wine drinkers, a must for you

A friend has one and we all though what a load of bks but every one (10 or so people) who has done a blind taste test over numerous bottles of red wine (many) has chosen the wine that has been through it. £12 to turn a £6 bottle into a £10 bottle, got to be worth it.

I have a similar gadget. Unfortunately, in my haste to get to the wine, I keep forgetting to use it.

It does improve the flavour.

I bought one of those and did a similar blind tasting too - my results were totally non-conclusive and therefore I binned it.

I'm surprised. I am not exaggerating we have done loads of blind taste tests and no one has ever chosen the wrong glass. Are you putting tea through it?;)

I've got one of those and have done the taste test. IMO, it works.

They certainly do improve less than favourable wine. Pour a sip into your glass straight from the bottle then pour a glass through this device. I guarantee you'll tell the difference.

Many , but not all wines do benefit from decanting, or double decanting, which is effectively what this gadget seems to do.

Worthwhile I suppose if you are too lazy to double decant yourself.

My old man got one too - if all else it is a fun talking point at the dinner table. I think it makes a difference, but I have hardly got the most developed set of tastebuds when it comes to vino reddo.

Mines at the back of the cupboard, rarely used. But then I am organised, I open my wines in the morning ready for dinner

The way we do it in Oz is take half a glass out of the bottle, stick the cork back in (and hold it in) then give it a shake. Job done.

Note: doesn't work well if it is an old wine with sediment in it.

Got to admit, I tried it on a 2006 Pomerol tonight and didn't taste a huge difference but then again we didn't do back to back blind taste test.

Got one with mine too, it wasn't the Venture version though which is better still. That said with a real nice bottle of wine its still no substitute for decanting properly.
