The in laws LG 24" TV has given up the ghost.

By my reckoning, a 32" will be a better replacement for them, as it is a more common size. Should be more choice, better priced and it is bigger!

Retired, so money is a bit tight.

My research suggests that £230 is a good place to be, with a few models from the big manufacturers at that price.

Like these:

Samsung UE32F5000

Panasonic TX-L32EM6B

LG 32LN540U

Really wanted to suggest Toshiba, as we've had one for a few trouble free years now, but reviews of a couple of their current models shows some problems.

Anyone got useful insight into the TV market at the moment?

Both are good...

Samsung UE32F5000

Panasonic TX-L32EM6B

Either will do the job well.

I have a 32 inch Logik from Curry's and is perfectly adequate. Cost about £200 I think

Talking of cheap; Asda have a full HD Polaroid P50LED14 - 50" LED-backlit LCD for £286.00.

God knows what it's like but, 'tis a lot of telly for not much money.

That is huge for less than £300.

Spotted an offer on a digihome 32" on ebuyer for £139, but father in law would prefer a brand he's heard of I think.

If they have broadband and you can stretch the budget a bit, it is worth getting a Smart TV for things like iPlayer etc.

Would they consider used or do you think it is better to have warranty?

Just that there are some bargins out there.

I bought a Sony 40" EX403 for £200 recently, to be honest it was a stop gap while deciding what to get for the conservatory (ended up with a Sony W905A) but what a belter of a set, especially for £200.

I saw 32" versions for around £160 and they are pretty much bullet proof, plus you get all the internet stuff like iPlayer etc.

There is a Samsung F5000 and an F5500, one is edge lit and the other backlit, I would go for the backlit one.

Also the Sony W605B is available in 32" and is a corker, not sure on price, but a superb set.
I am going to sell the EX403 and get the 40" W605B, it is brilliant.
Edit: Sorry, no 32", it is last years A model, which is not great.
KDL-32R413B is what they want.

By the way, until this round of LCDs I was always plasma, but a handful are getting good now. Not many, but a few.
