Flying to America

Currently going through the process of booking flights to NY using Sky scanner.

Quick question for you, one of the options is to fly with Delta, but it's opperated by Virgin Atlantic.

What type of aircraft would this likely to be? I don't really want to go long haul on a 767 which I think Delta use?

Virgin and delta merged or codeshare if I remember correctly. So if its a virgin plane I would have thought it would be either a new a330 or a refitted 747. Not sure on what delta are using

Code share - not merged - large proportion of Delta's transatlantic fleet is B767.

I'd rather swim than use Delta for transatlantic unless they've sacked their fleet of surly reptilian hostesses and tired old planes.

That being said, Virgin are the antithesis of Delta - they're really rather good. Assuming it's just a codeshare I wouldn't worry about it too much.

B767 is long in the tooth - but all of Delta's transatlantic equipment has been modernized/refreshed and Delta Business Elite is probably the cheapest lie-flat seat across the Atlantic, if you book early enough.

Fashionable perhaps, but most stereotypes have their origins in truth. I've gone from gold tier to 'Fine, if the only alternative is United' with them.

More power to them if they're competitive with BA's World Traveller and WT+ these days for transatlantic, I've always been fairly positive after switching to BA for regular LHR to ORD trips. P'raps I'll give Delta another crack in the future.

Perhaps the problem is that most people (me included) flew Delta a few years ago and was so put off by the experience that I'd virtually have to be given a free flight to try them again. Plus the staff are rude and you have to pay for drinks. BA's economy (and Virgin's) were light years ahead of Delta.

I use 'em because one of my clients insists that I do and I chug across the Atlantic frequently - though not in coach. Delta's short-haul/domestic is as godforsaken as their competitors - with the surprising exception of JetBlue, who have more coach legroom than any US domestic carrier and seatback vid.
Stu, I am comfortable to recommend Delta Business Elite, as I know you travel extensively also.

I only use Virgin Atlantic occasionally, but living were I do, get lots of family and friends visiting, so I hear a lot of pissing and moaning about Virgin and BA - just as much as the US carriers, I feel.

I travel way too much for work, but unfortunately in economy only. Up to a couple of years ago the company I was working for was in Atlanta (Delta's hub) so it took lots of skill and arranging meetings at specific times to avoid flying Delta.
