PH opinion: these cheap rally cars

Just wondering what you guys think of these cars as starting out rally vehicles. I have looked all over for advise/prices but turns out the internet isn't a straightforward answer-giving machine. So -
Citroen Saxo
Rover MGZR
Golf MK 2,3,4
Peugeot 205/206
Honda Civic (1998)
BMW 318is (like the $500 craiglist dude that took on Rally Mexico!)
Suzuki Swift
Or maybe even exotic...
Mitsubishi FTO
VW Corrado
Toyota Trueno (would have to be a completely insane find)
OR any other you think need to be mentioned!
Should point out I am not old enough to drive - but I still know what an ECU and wishbone suspension are etc...
NB: Want to do the garage work, prep, paintjob and everything myself. Not always possible but still. THANKS

Cheap, easy to work on, cheap to fix, abundant parts. The guy has had some decent results in his class too.

Forgot to add the likes of a fiesta, like a tin coffin but roll cages do wonders don't they? Think a focus would be a bit tricky to gain power without major work and money. But parts for fords are abundant because everyone is really boring with their car choices 
Not looked in depth as regards to the governing body but I live in Aberdeenshire, Scotland - Granite City Rally goes straight past the house. The tracks around are excellent for rallying, owned by some dudes called the Forestry Commission, nice bunch, don't think they'd mind... :P
Joking about the last part - logging machines and angry officials round every would-be-apex aren't fun. Could result with death or even worse - the closure of the stages. ahah
My friend and I - 'nerds' with active enthusiasm, experiment with multi stage rockets most of the time - have agreed to do this as a team. He the co-driver, me the pilot. As will be when we join the RAF. Together we would have enough money and perseverence for making a car rally spec, entry fees, licenses, and a shed of spares. However PH is a brilliant place and we thought why not use it for some expert (most of the time!) advice.
Oh, any general advice like "don't hit trees", is helpful, you know what I mean, any tricks you think I deserve to know would be awesome!

Not necessarily, and it really depends on what kind of events the OP wants to do and the class he's planning to run in.It's like saying which car should I buy to race? There's a thousand championships and series to choose from all of which accept different cars.
But in answer to the OP's questions I'd suggest MG ZR or 205, lots of already prepared ones around and if you buy a 1400cc one you can enter a whole raft of events and be reasonably competitive.
