Having bought a Play:1 for the bedroom last week that came with a free bridge Im now tempted with the Play Bar and 2 Play:1's as surround sound on the tv.

Does any one know if i set up the three speakers as surround sound could i still play music from say just one of the rear Play:1's rather than the play bar and both rear Play:1's.

Thanks

Nope that is not possible, You have to group the speakers as a surround set up, If you wanted to use the Play 1's separately then you would need to un-group the surround setup.

This is not as easy as grouping on the sonos app.

When you are adding the speakers first time it will ask you if you wish to use the speakers as surround speakers, the same way as it probably asked you if you wanted to use the Play1's as a stereo pair.

If there is no wiring issues, then it can be far cheaper too wire and install a proper surround sound system.

This, 100%

Sonos is great for getting music from room to room, and the Play:1 and Play:5 are very convenient.

When talking about surround sound, or any sort of better sound quality than a PLAY:5 can offer, a connect and some other speakers will offer much better results for the same spend.

Music
Play 5 times 2 (stereo pair) , and a sub costs £1,297. A Sonos connect at £279 gives all the same functionality and leaves you just over £1,000 to spend on speakers that will give much better audio.

Surround.
A full Sonos Surround setup is Play Bar, Sub, 2 Play 5 and 2 play 1 that's nearly £2,250! Again, use a connect and give yourself £2k to spend on a proper amp and speakers and you will get much better results.
