Hi, It's getting to that time of year again where my sons car insurance is due for renewal. He will have 3 years no claims in June. Another problems is we live in Northern Ireland and quite a few insurance companies won't insure over here, what is the best comparison website or insurance company to go for?

Elephant/Admiral are the best I'd say. I was insured with Elephant *quite* reasonably at 20 on my Clio Trophy.

Are you a named driver in his policy for the times you need to drive it?, brings the price down usually.

I'd like to know a little about this if you're willing - fully comp , any mile limits?

Another vote Elephant/Admiral.

I'm 20 and the cost on my 330ci is not too bad at all!

Elephant/Admiral all the way. I'm 23 with an E92 330i + 2 years Ncb and pay circa £500.

Elephant/admiral are ok for price but dare to swap the car over to another one mid term and they will fk you over I was charged £400 to swap cars when I was 19 and the best thing was it was a very similar car a 1.6 import mx5 to another 1.6 import less rust.
When I come to renewal found a better offer instead of £1.4k from admiral. I told them not to auto renewal as I found a cheaper quote £600 Churchill and they still took the money out of my bank went fking ape st at them for ignoring my request to not auto renewal.

Will never use them again as long as im driving dreadful company to deal with. On a unrelated note swapped cars over again with Churchill from a 1.6 mx5 to a 1.8 vr ltd mx5 cost just £30 quid.

I had 2 yrs NCB, IAM, fully comp and 5k miles for under £1400 which I was pleased with.

DO what everyone else does.

Buy the car and insure it yourself and stick him on it as a named driver.

That's a good idea. commit fraud and invalidate the insurance.
Maybe it was common 5+ years ago but not now,,,

Try all the comparison sites, they can often give different figures even for the same insurer.

So - Confused.com, compare the market, money supermarket

I imagine Admiral will wind up being cheapest for him - it was and still is for me. As others have mentioned though get everything sorted at the beginning or they will do you over for mid-term adjustments! Even ones you think that won't cost!

Also try direct line, the co-op and Adrian Flux as all those will not appear on comparison sites.

IF the named driver drives the car aswell then it's not fraud. Swap cars twice a week, that's how to get around it.

If you think it's not common then your living in denial, and it's not just the working class / underclass doing it.

Plenty of well heeled middle incomes are doing it.

I used Elephant this year for a Mk7 Gti at 20.

£2300 for just me

£1800 for my farther and I

£1200 for my farther, my mother, and I

£900 for my farther, my mother, one of my brothers, and I

£650 for my farther, my mother, both of my brothers and I.

Anyone after that stated putting the price up. Have any of them ever driven it. Once to move it out of the way to get their own car out, yet a saving of £1650.

I've been with Elephant for a couple of years now, since 18. Also have one of my parents on as a named driver to bring it down a bit. They've been helpful enough for me, switched the car part way through and only had to pay £40 odd admin IIRC.

I used to always insure myself as main driver but add both parents on as named and it cut about 30-40% off the premium.

Yes it is. I think I tried a quote with me as a named driver doing fronting, and I think it was more expensive.

Whoever thinks of the computer algorithms to make all these little elements completely change the monthly?

FYI; with Elephant at the time, it was cheaper to say my car was parked on the road rather than in the garage as that's obviously much safer...

Yes echo the others, they covered my E92 335i M-sport when I was 21 for £820, chuffed smile

They recently quoted £565 for my BMW 540i at 24 so hasn't dropped too much since frown
