Can anyone recommend where to get gas and electric checked?

Hi all
Girlfriend and I have a '77 Sherpa campervan. Bodywork is a bit worn but we've done 3+ hour drives in it so engine is good. The only things we haven't "tested" are the gas and electric. The previous owner said she'd never used them before so they might not work at all but we don't want to break anything or worse yet, blow up the van with leaking gas.
Anyway, can anyone recommend somewhere we can get these checked? We're based in South London/North Surrey.
