Bmw Mini Cooper s head light washers

Hi very one I need a bit of help here I've just fitted a new head light washer pump as the other one didn't work at all now the new one works but the jets only come out of the head lights twice when I try again they don't come out at all but when I turn the engine off and start it back up again I put the lights on full and the jets come out again there working but not all the time is this normal or do I have a big problem anyone know what to do about this

I think they only work every so many washes so you don't wash the lights every time you wash the screen. also only when the lights are on.

^^^ This is right, they only work once when you've turned the lights on. If you turn the lights off then on with the engine running, I believe there is a timer relay to stop them washing the lights again. You need to turn the engine on/off when testing them - have just changed my pump also.
