Car now 10 years old, still looking good.

My MG ZT is 10 years old this month.

In my opinion it certainly doesn't look that old... it's completely rust free, and it often gets complimentary remarks from people. I've even had someone knock at my door out of the blue, asking if I would be interested in selling it! It has a BMW diesel engine and the car's value is only probably £1,500-£2,000, but it looks and feels like something much more expensive.

Many people will immediately discount buying an MG/Rover based primarily on misinformation and ignorance, and I feel sad that they are missing out.

Anyway, happy birthday to my car! I'll be keeping it for a while longer yet.

But the ZT is based on (a variant of) the Rover 75 which looked old (by design) when it first came out.

My car has just hit ten years old. It was never the prettiest of cars but I don't think it's really dated, aesthetically.

In a word, no. My 10-year old Seat Leon has faded paint, laquer peel all over the roof, missing paint from the tailgate where a bike rack was fitted and a few dents. Looks a mess.

Agree on the mgzt, there's a couple of v8 ones for sale in a car supermarket near me, was just looking at the advert thismorning thinking how fresh they look.

I heard an ad on the radio today that contained the line..
'So your car is 10 years old and you're tired of spending hundreds of pound keeping it going ?'

It made me laugh as I was in my 13 year old fiat which has cost me nothing to keep going.
If cars are seen as 'old' and over the hill by 10 years old, it can only mean bargains for those of us not drawn in by the adverts!

I don't know what it is about these cars but I do like them ,a neighbour has a friend who has one ,also diesel ,though TBH I would much prefer the V8/V6 petrol versions.

Completely agree with you OP, it may indeed be based on the 75, which is starting to look its age but the visual tweaks they made to make it the ZT still makes them look good (I personally think). When I get rid of the 159 (i.e. when my 200 Coupe is back on the road and back to being my daily) I think I'll be taking a good long look at the V8 ZT as a replacement for it.

It does look good. Shiny paint and no rust helps. On the other hand there are plenty of ropey ZT/75 out there by now.

Also consider how much better quality cars then and now are compared to say 30 or 40 years ago. A 10 year old car from 1965 would probably be pretty borked by 1975.

With my private plate on, most people assume my Jag is much newer than the 14 years old it actually is. They also tend to think it's worth between £4k-10k, whereas in reality it was shed money!

I think the boot spoiler dates it but otherwise it looks just fine.
