If your car insurer offered a straight £100 off your car insurance in return for a 70mph limiter would you go ahead with it?

The thought was provoked by the the number of people who I saw today who slavishly obey speed limits for better or for worse - for them the £100 would be a no brainer!

Pretty sure this is a Daily Mail campaign, limit all cars to 70 mph, bring back the man with the red flag walking in front of the car, 5 mph speed limit within 20 miles of a school. OH GOD WON'T SOMEBODY PLEASE THINK OF THE CHILDREN.

Not a chance.

Even for 50% off I wouldn't. Probably not even for free insurance either.

The discount for restricting your car to 70mph would likely be nearer £5

What happens if I need to take evasive action to remove myself from a potential crash and exceed 70mph?

That would make my insurance £14 per year and my Panda doesn't do much more than seventy anyway. smile

Why not just cut your balls off and get a discount for being female.

This is why I'd say no too. I've driven fast past a collision to avoid getting caught as I spotted one happening, and I'd like that option there for any chance of it happening in the future. Without good acceleration, you've got roughly 5 directions you can veer towards, with it, you've got 8 options to escape. It's even more important on motorbikes.

No

About the same chances of having an insurance black box in any of my cars (the saving if any), not worth it.

God no, my works car is limited to 70mph and when you hit the limiter it just feels like your pushing into a sponge, it takes a age to overtake anything and then you get stuck in the middle lane, in my own car I like to overtake quickly then drop back to lane 1 but in this car you pull out hit the limiter and crawl past.

I don't complain as I'm getting paid the whole time and it's a free car essentially. But for my own car and for the sake of £100 no thanks, would rather give up buying cups of tea everyday to save that.
