Driving a slow car, surprisingly good fun!

You can picture the scene; after a surprisingly late night on Sunday we managed to sleep in yesterday, the morning of one of my oldest friends wedding.
35-40 miles of busy a road away with only the wife's 1.4 beetle to get us there.
This car is the bloody slowest thing going!
But what a laugh! Reminded me of when I first passed my test & harnessing the power of the mighty 1.1 fiesta popular plus I first drove, momentum was key!
Remember when you had to scan the road ahead for overtaking opportunities? Drop it into fourth a good ten seconds before the gap in oncoming traffic arrived to get some speed built up, change into fifth again just as it hits 5000rpm & before the valves try to make a break for it through the rocker cover.
Yes, a few people got irate at our progress (people really don't like being overtaken these days do they?) but it was such a challenge & surprisingly good fun. Most cars I've driven I guess I'm more likely to make decisions of speed not what the car can do but on what I have the bottle to do!
Anyway, if your mrs drives a slow old shopping cart, get yourself out in it for a laugh, it's been the best bit of fun driving I've had in ages

Drove a mates triumph spitfire a while back which was hilarious, and recently drove a fiat punto 1.2 16v sporting. Cracking little motor!
Speed isnt all that important. I usually drive quick ish french cars ie: 306 rallye and ive never felt like I needed more.

Got out the other end buzzing and grinning ear-to-ear. There's no flattery involved driving a car like that fast, which makes it very rewarding.

Yep, agree with that - my old 1.5D Saxo's brakes would fade quite quickly under spirited use. Same but not quite so marked with my current 1.0 litre Corsa.The Mrs's 1.4 Berlingo is quite slow - very similar performance to my 1.0 Corsa.
