Terrifying passenger test drives.....

Well, I had an interesting experience this past weekend. Went to see a nice looking Impreza WRX, and was very pleased with the car. Then the lad took me out in it......
All was well until he decided to race another car on a DC to show me what it could do. He thought it was great. I thought I was going to die. As I clung to the handle above my head for dear life, I thought "I might not get out of this!". The car was clinging to the road as best it could, but he was all over the place. I was certain he was going to lose it and we were going to go straight over the central reservation and into the scenery.
I'm not easily rattled, but the way he drove absolutely terrified me, and I couldn't wait to get out of the car.
I still bought it, but f
k me, I thought that was it. I shouldn't have been as subtle when trying to calm him down, in hindsight, but there we go! Next time, if there is a next time, I'll go for "SLOW THE fk DOWN" as opposed to "Yeah it's fast, probably best not to drive it so fast on here though"....
I felt a right tit to be honest, as the guy in the other car and anybody else who saw us would have thought I was in on it!
Anybody else experienced anything similar?

Quite, but as I'd been looking forward to it all week while I was on holiday and there was nothing fundamentally wrong with the car itself, I decided to overlook his antics.If I'd found any slight issues after that, I'd have walked. But the driving on its own wasn't enough to deter me.
Not quite the same, but the 750bhp Gumpert Apollo press car coming out of the pit lane at Estoril.
I'd been driving all sorts of fast cars that day, but the speed at which it lept off from the "end of pitlane" line and towards the 90 degree right hander with barrier startled me.
We were on Michelin Pilot Super Sports and were overtaking the R8 GT and 911 GT3 Cup car on slicks. It was a good day.

+1My natural instinct when selling a car is to be Miss Daisy and go for smooth gearshifts and inputs rather than the 'look at how much of a dick I can be' attitude.
That way when the kid buys the car and goes wheelspinning off into the distance you can confidently say that the clutch failing 2 days after he bought it was his own doing!!!
I remember sitting next to Paul from Road Track Race in his Mevabusa demonstrator and being quite taken aback with how bloody quick it was.

The instructor asked how long ago and what I had for breakfast, I replied with porridge, he said the following that has stuck with me.....
“if you’re going to throw the porridge up just open your visor, it will just blow behind us”
I didn’t hurl but I was utterly shocked at how fast the little thing went; in acceleration, cornering and most impressive braking!

When I sold my Passat I drove it in a calm, yet swift, manner. I think the buyer appreciated that. He could see that I did rush the 'box, that nothing knocked, and that it was quite sorted.
Another school of thought on the ragging though: If the bloke ragged it on the testdrive and it didn't show anything wrong with the car, then that is arguably a bonus. A mechanically fked car would surely show something up!

ked car would surely show something up!I had a guy refuse to slow down on a test drive in a new 911 until I undid his seatbelt for him. I'm not being killed on a test drive because some cock knocker can't drive.
In my own time a 400+ bhp 1960's Beetle was interesting. Massive turbo lag pulling away in second gear, then the turbo spooled up and it fked off down the pit lane. Never been in anything that pulled as hard as that

Instructor at knock hill taking me round in a Cupra, not terrifying but scary how he could take corners that fast while telling me and two others how to drive, made it look like a leisurely Sunday drive
Similar - instructor at Knockhill taking me round in my own Cupra (R in fact) - it was more the speed he was carrying through corners that surprised me, much more skilled and braver than I am.I went to look a nice classic Merc and as well as driving like a mental, the bloke revved it so hard waiting at a set of lights -engine still cold too- that part of the accelerator linkage popped off and we coasted to an embarrassing stop on a main road... I walked away from that one with an "I'll think about it"...
